Eagles rookie Cooper Dejean to miss three weeks with hamstring injury

The Philadelphia Eagles will be without one of their talented rookies for the start of training camp.

Defensive back Cooper Dejean will miss three weeks due to a hamstring injury, ESPN reported Tuesday. The 40th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft suffered the injury during offseason training, according to the report.

A first-team All-American and the Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year in 2023 from Iowa, DeJean registered seven interceptions and 13 passes defensed over the past two seasons. He was expected to be a first round pick, but fell to the second round, which allowed Philadelphia to draft him.

DeJean was one of two top defensive backs selected by the Eagles, joining Toledo standout and first round selection Quinyon Mitchell.

The addition of both DeJean and Mitchell should help the Eagles secondary improve from a tough 2023 season. They finished 31st in passing yards and passing touchdowns allowed in 2023.

Nick Sirianni’s squad opens their 2024 preseason schedule on August 9 at the Baltimore Ravens before also facing the New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings.
