The Eagles Want an Interview with Tom Coughlin and It Could Happen as Early as Monday

It finally appears as though the Eagles are about to bring a big name in to interview for their head coaching vacancy. Per Mike Garafalo, sources in the Giants organization told FOX Sports they expect Coughlin to speak to the Eagles in the coming days about their coaching vacancy. FOX 5 in New York on Friday night reported the Eagles requested permission from the Giants to speak with Coughlin.

This sounds a whole lot better to me than the Eagles talking to the likes of Doug Pederson and Duce Staley and any other Schmo that they can think of. I have to be honest though, while I can see Coughlin at least hearing what owner Jeff Lurie had to say, I can’t see him wanting the Eagles’ job, mainly due to Howie Roseman.

There are too many questions within the upper management structure of the Eagles. I view it as a major turn-off to the big name guys. However, the guys that don’t have head coaching experience I could definitely see wanting in on the Eagles’ job.

Per Garafalo’s report, he talked about what Coughlin looks for in an organization:

Whether Coughlin considers the Eagles job to be the right situation remains to be seen. He didn’t seem thrilled with the organization’s decision to fire Chip Kelly after only three seasons. It’s clear Coughlin values loyalty in an organization and would want to hear that’s the case in Philly, despite the move to get rid of Kelly in a hurry. There were other factors involved during Kelly’s regime, namely his desire for control over personnel. But Coughlin would be looking for signs of stability in any potential employers.”

And if you’re questioning the validity of this report, here you go.

Whatever the case may be, this is certainly an interesting turn of events.
