On Friday afternoon, Donovan McNabb was featured in an “Ask Me Anything” segment on Reddit. It’s the second one he’s done, and some of his answers to questions were quite comical. Some were very, very long, as well.
While we couldn’t get to this yesterday due to our extensive coverage of the Wing Bowl (you can read all of our Wing Bowl posts here, as well as our social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook), we’re bringing you some highlights of McNabb’s AMA right now.
We’ve aggregated some of the better responses in this post, so grab a cup of coffee or milk (?), get some popcorn and enjoy. It’s a fun read. You can read the entire thread here.
He definitely thinks he’s a Hall of Famer:
Yes I feel like I’m a hall of famer. My numbers speak for themselves. Over a decade of play for Philadelphia there were only two quarterbacks that had the winning percentage that I do and my numbers obviously rate among the top, or better than some of the quarterbacks that are in the Hall of Fame at this particular time. Do I have a vote? No. Will I be heartbroken if I don’t get in at any given time? Nope. I played the game because I love the game. The competitive nature, the attitude, the approach. No one can ever take any of that away from me.
He didn’t throw up:
No, I didn’t puke. It’s unfortunate that we still talk about this 11 years after playing in the Super Bowl. But, no. That did not happen and hopefully we can stop talking about it. Once again, go watch the game tape.
Yeah, right.
Advice for Cam Newton:
Advice for Cam: protect the football. Cam playing in this game, we know his ability, we know that he can throw the ball from the pocket, he can change a game in one or two plays. Make sure you protect the football. That’s the message I would send to him, as well as to Peyton… because turnovers are critical in the Super Bowl.
How history will judge him:
Personally, I can’t care less how history judges me. When you go through life, there’s no need for you to ever look back and wonder what one man or what one woman may think of the things that you have accomplished, or maybe things you haven’t accomplished. It’s really all on self confidence and being secure in yourself. We all have hurdles, we all have obstacles that we’re faced with. But really it’s all on you and how you’re able to overcome those adversities.
For me, when I played for my 13 year career, the numbers speak for itself. You can go and get DVDs, cause back in the day it was VHS, then they had some old dude spinning some thing with the prompter, but the footage is there. Film never lies. It was a lot of fun when I played.
…so you’re telling me if he doesn’t get in the Hall of Fame that he won’t throw a fit about that? I don’t buy it.
Somebody thought McNabb was on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and asked him about the experience when it was actually Geoffrey Owens of The Cosby Show fame:
I’ve never been on the Always Sunny in Philadelphia show! I know some people think black people look alike, but that didn’t really work out well. They had a character that was supposed to be me on the show, which ended up being my man from the Cosby Show, which we don’t really like alike…but, I appreciated it. My name was mentioned on the show. They never asked me to be on the show.
McNabb won’t give a kid who sent trading cards to be signed in 2003 by him and Chad Lewis back since the office lost them:
Unfortunately, that was years ago. 13 years ago. I don’t think I’ll be able to get that back for you. It’s unfortunate. I do sign cards and send them back when I have the time. But, I’m sorry for that single time, you weren’t able to receive your cards back autographed by Philadelphia Eagles, Chad Lewis and myself. So, unfortunately, I have to say no.
McNabb loves him some McDonald’s:
u/boyerman, everybody eats at McDonald’s. Barack Obama probably eats at McDonald’s. You know, who didn’t grow up on eating McDonald’s? Did you? That’s the big question. Did you? Chicken McNuggets, McRibs, Big Macs, you tell me. Do you supersize your meal?

His “Welcome to the NFL” moment:
u/Velocity, my first “welcome to the NFL” moment was when my name was called at Radio City Music Hall in New York. I was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles and I was booed.
“Hello!”
He thinks a hot dog is not a sandwich:
I believe that a hotdog is not a sandwich. A hotdog is a hotdog. I’m from Chicago where we enjoy our Polish sausages. For those who don’t know, it’s not an Italian sausage, it’s not a ball frank — it’s a Polish sausage. So a hotdog is a hotdog. The question is, do you put ketchup on your hotdog? Hmm…think about that!
Why 2009 was his best season:
It’s easy to say that my best season was the Super Bowl run, when you look at it statistically.
I probably would say 2009. A lot of ups and downs, adversities. I was benched in the Baltimore game, and after the benching went on a run. We went on a run and I believe we won the NFC East and ended up playing in the NFC Championship game against the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale, Arizona. Which, I still to this day think it was a patched interference call that was not called, but I’m not going to be pissed off about it, at all.
Wait, what’s his damn Super Bowl prediction?
Predictions for the game on Sunday…I know you all are sitting and waiting, me too. I’m just like you. I’ve got a lot of money on this game. There are a lot of key factors in this game, and I think that Denver, out of all teams, it’s funny how they’re back in this situation of playing against a team where some of the same similarities, key factors, on offence, defense, and most importantly specialty.
When you look at the difference of the Denver Broncos playing against the Seattle Seahawks, the dynamic player on special teams was Percy Harvin for Seattle. The dynamic player for Carolina: Ted Ginn. Special players can run a kickoff back, can run a jet sweep, possibly catch a ball and take it 65. Quarterback position, Russell Wilson: mobile guy, accurate in the pocket, does a great job with biding time. Cam Newton, very similar. Running back, LeSean Lynch, Jonathan Stewart, very similar type running backs. Defense: defensive line that can create pressure and get to the quarterback. Very similar, Seattle and Carolina. Linebackers that flow very well and create turnovers. Secondary, well maybe they’re not the legion of doom, but they have one of the best corners of the game, like Seattle.
So, my predictions of the game: it might get ugly for Denver if Carolina wins. MVP, they’ll find a way not to give it to Cam, but it will be Cam Newton.
Did anyone follow that? All I know is that McNabb has a lot of money on this game. Must be gambling with Charles Barkley.
UPDATE: Here’s a video of McNabb posted on YouTube answering questions.
