Doug Pederson has an old school way of thinking, he’s lived the stop-gap life and was in Philadelphia when the Eagles slowly brought Donovan McNabb along.
So what does that mean for Carson Wentz?
Adam Schefter delved into that question Tuesday morning on 97.5 The Fanatic during an appearance with Anthony Gargano.
“I still think in a perfect world, not sure if that exists, but the Eagles don’t want to see Wentz on the field this year,” he said.
If the Eagles were to stay in the playoff hunt for the entire season, that would mean Wentz most likely wouldn’t see a snap. And even if Sam Bradford were to go down for an extended period of time, Chase Daniel would become the starter.
So unless the Eagles are wretched and out of the playoff race or if Bradford and Daniel both get injured, we may not see Wentz at all in 2016.
“They want to make sure they grow this guy and he maximizes his potential for years and years to come,” Schefter said.
Pederson started the first nine games of McNabb’s rookie season in 1999. It wasn’t until the Eagles were 2-7 that then head coach Andy Reid decided to trot his young signal caller onto the field.
We’ll see how everything plays out.
