PPA Ends Free Late Parking on Wednesdays and First Fridays

Years ago the mayor of Philadelphia at the time, Ed Rendell, began a promotion to increase commerce and an influx into Center City. The city created no meter fees on every Wednesday and each first Friday of the month after 5:00 p.m. in Old City. The parking deal which revitalized the neighborhood and was a local favorite will end in October.

PPA releases this statement on their website Thursday, “Beginning October 5 for the Wednesday promo and October 7 for first Friday, meter fees will be required every night, including Wednesdays and first Fridays, up to the time posted on the parking regulation sign on each block.”

The post continued; “The conclusion of these promotions is intended to increase parking opportunities for those shopping and dining in the city, and in light of the increased flexibility afforded by the meterUP app. In addition, the PPA has increased time limits in the evening on most Center City blocks allowing enough time for people participating in night time activities without being rushed to get back to move their car.”

The parking campaign’s end in October will increase usage for PPA’s app MeterUp.
