Predictions for Eagles-Cowboys Week 17

It’s the season finale for the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, whereas the Dallas Cowboys are looking to rest their starters as they head into the playoffs with a bye week during the wild card round. Ah, if only. Maybe the Eagles can send a message to the NFC East Champions that next season might be different.

God, we hope. To the predictions:

Ray Hagan:

It doesn’t sound like Dallas is going to rest their starters, or if they do rest them it won’t be at the start of the game. But I said two weeks ago the Eagles would lose to Baltimore and sweep the last two.

I didn’t change that prediction last week and I’m surely not changing it this week. The fact is that Dallas is the better team, but they’ve clinched a first round bye and there’s not really anything on the line for the game.

I expect their guys to play not to get hurt and get themselves to the bye week. I expect the Eagles to put out all the effort they can to close the season on a high note. That discrepancy has the ability to close the talent gap.

Eagles 31-27.

Tony Cutillo:

The one positive thing to come out of 2016 is Carson Wetnz. He has provided this city with the realization that we have a chance to be something special. Over the last few weeks he has really grown and will continue to develop. This kid is going to lead us to the road we want to travel down and the stage we want to perform on.

That being said, it is Cowboy week. Even though it has been an odd week with nothing on the line record-wise, it’s still a chance to destroy those guys on the other side of the field that wear a star on their helmet. It’s the chance to show no one comes into our house and dominate, especially not the Cowboys. The Birds will have Dak Prescott [for the drive or two he’s in the game], Mark Sanchez and possibly Tony Romo running for the sidelines as Jim Schwartz lets it all go in the last showing of the season. Fly E-A-G-L-E-S fly!

Eagles 27-10.

Dave Uram:

The Cowboys are a much better team, but clearly focused on the playoffs as they should be. The Eagles want to finish strong for their own reputation as well as Doug Pederson. Regardless, because the Birds lack talent, it won’t be easy.

Eagles 24-23.

Candis McLean:

I give in. I’m finally going to do it. No, I’m not implying that I’m going to stop judging people who mess up self checkout at the market. I’m going to pick the Eagles for the first time in weeks. The Cowboys have already stated that the Eagles will be getting a substantial dose of Sanchez and McFadden. Here we’ll have one team playing for pride and another playing for cardio. Even without Ryan Mathews, the Eagles should pull this one out easily. If they don’t, it will be fitting it falls on the National Hangover Day of the year.

Eagles 27-13.

Tyler Trumbauer:

Ah, another meaningless game for the Eagles in Week 17. Last year’s Week 17 contest, coached by Pat Shurmur, ended in victory for the birds. This year, Doug Pederson still has the head coaching job and I think he’ll enjoy the same outcome as his predecessor. With the Cowboys resting a lot of their starters and playing Mark Sanchez for the majority of the game, per reports, this game bodes very well for the Eagles, who have not given up on Pederson and this season. The Cowboys are a good team and I believe if the starters played, for even just one full half, the Eagles would lose, but with Captain Butt Fumble leading the way, the Birds should prevail in the finale.

Eagles 21-13.

Adrian Fedkiw:

The Cowboys have nothing to play for. Screw it, let’s take the Birds.

Eagles 24-20.

Sean Brace:

And here we are, the final game of the Eagles season! Thank god. Terrible squad and to be honest, not a whole lot of fun down the stretch. Oh well, heres to next year. Eagles win a game that shouldn’t even be played,

Eagles 20-14.

Nick Piccone:

Throughout the years, the Eagles have been pretty good at winning games that don’t mean anything. So… does it surprise you I’d go with the Birds over the Cowboys on Sunday? When looking at this game, you might think the Eagles still have nothing to play for … and you’d be right. But, do you think if they roll over and let the Cowboys’ second- and third-string guys beat them from pillar to post, this fan base won’t remember come next season?

This is the Eagles’ playoff game. They have to destroy the Cowboys for this fan base to really look forward to what can be next season. And I think they’ll do that, and hopefully cause some mental doubt in the minds of that team. If there’s one thing I don’t want to see, it’s a long Cowboys’ playoff run. Birds take it here.

Eagles 31-21.
