Riding a career year with 17 goals and 15 assists thus far, Wayne Simmonds was officially named to the NHL All-Star team today, representing the Metropolitan Division. Simmonds is among the top vote-getters in the division and was surprisingly shocked at the honor. [Flyers]
“I’m pretty shocked. I think we have a lot of great players on this team and to be the guy chosen to represent the Flyers organization, it’s pretty special. There’s such a long list of All-Stars that play on this team and a lot of tradition, so it means a lot.
“I attribute everything to my teammates. Without them, there’s no me. It’s not a one-man game. It’s all about team and that’s the way we try to go about it in the Flyers locker room and without any of these guys it wouldn’t be possible. I’m honored to be the team representative and just want to make the boy proud.”
The All-Star format will feature a three-on-three competition, with three 20-minute games, with players from each of the divisions making up the teams.
The NHL All-Star Weekend takes place on January 28 and 29 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Here are the All-Star rosters that were released today.
