Phillies, Freddy Galvis Reportedly Agree on One-Year Deal

It’s been rumored for the previous few days, but it seems as official as can be on Friday morning as the Phillies and shortstop Freddy Galvis have come to terms on a new contract. This agreement avoids arbitration.

The one-year deal was first reported by MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki.

Freddy Galvis hit 20 homers and played brilliant defense at SS last season. He will make $4.35 million.

This signing does not come as a surprise as it seems as though Galvis has just one more season left in a Phillies uniform. Top prospect J.P. Crawford worked his way up to Triple-A Lehigh Valley during the 2016 campaign, but saw his numbers decline. Another season with the IronPigs and steady growth for the young shortstop will assuredly put him in Galvis’ starting spot in 2018, bringing the end to Freddy’s era here in Philly.
