Don’t do it Cleveland.
The Browns are looking for their 27th different starting quarterback since 1999 and according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, they are “seriously considering” drafting Mitchell Trubisky with the No. 1 pick over the genetic freak Myles Garrett, who is deemed to be the top prospect in the NFL Draft.
The San Francisco 49ers sit at No. 2 and the worry is that if Cleveland selects Garrett, new head coach Kyle Shanahan might pull the trigger on Trubisky. The 49ers, of course, need a quarterback desperately. They parted ways with Colin Kaepernick during the offseason.
It could also all be a smokescreen in an attempt to make the Browns do something stupid, which they usually do. The 49ers might run up to the podium faster than John Ross if Cleveland doesn’t take Garrett.
Isn’t the draft so much fun!
Cleveland also has the 12th selection and for me, it makes a whole lot more sense to wait for a quarterback to come to it there instead of reaching and passing on Garrett. The Browns acquired a bunch of assets from the Eagles last year in their trade up to No. 2, why not try to get back into the top 10 if Trubisky is still on the board?
You can also make the argument that since the Browns are so woefully bad and the quarterback class is the worst I’ve seen in a while – I didn’t give any signal caller a first-round grade – you can always wait until next April.
Garrett should be the pick at No. 1, we’ll see what happens Thursday night.
Just don’t do it Cleveland!
