Last week during the final Howie Roseman and Joe Douglas press conference before tonight’s commencement of the NFL Draft, they revealed that the Philadelphia Eagles’ plan will take the best player available during each round besides quarterback.
They do, however, need a couple of cornerbacks in this class.
And like Brian Billick mentioned during Wednesday’s NFL Draft media luncheon, that thought process is a bit of a con. I see what he’s saying, you’re not going to go all seven rounds and not draft cornerbacks because they weren’t the best player available when you picked.
The way the draft is setting itself up, taking the best player in the first round is smart. Will the Eagles go for an electric offensive weapon like John Ross, Christian McCaffrey, Corey Davis or Dalvin Cook, a potential sliding-if-he-is-there Reuben Foster, Jonathan Allen or Solomon Thomas or fill your biggest need and take a cornerback.
We’ll know by the end of the night.
It’s certainly the most stacked cornerback I’ve seen in a while, but just how deep is it?
Another interesting tidbit about the cornerback class is the superb duos at Washington (Sidney Jones and Kevin King), Ohio State (Marshon Lattimore and Gareon Conley) and Colorado (Chidobe Awuzie and Akhello Witherspoon). Does being in a great duo or an outstanding secondary change the evaluation when weighing a potential prospect?
I’m thinking the Eagles will snag about two-to-three corners by the end of the weekend.
Until then, happy draft day!
