Video: Ronald Darby Suffers Gruesome Looking Injury, Update on His Status

During the second quarter of today’s Eagles-Redskins game, Ronald Darby went down with a non-contact injury that looked right away like a broken right ankle. He was carted off the field and there was no update throughout the course of the game on his status.

Darby was covering Jordan Reed on the play where Kirk Cousins faked a handoff and ran to the other side of the field. While chasing Reed closely from behind, Darby stepped awkwardly on his right foot, which may or may not have slightly stepped on Reed’s right foot while they both were running. It’s hard to tell in the replays.

You can watch the video of the injury below, if you dare.

After the game, however, the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport provided an update on Darby, saying X-rays were negative, but he’ll get an MRI tomorrow to check for ligament and tendon damage.

Best case scenario? Mid-season return.

The immediate thought in my mind was I really hope this doesn’t result in the Eagles rushing Sidney Jones back on the field. If Darby is lost for the year, the plan should always stay the same as it is in regards to Jones. He’s the best cornerback on the roster, and the Eagles drafted him knowing the prime outlook was to play in 2018 most likely.
