Juan Nicasio’s 1-2 pitch to Charlie Blackmon caught too much of the plate; hence why it soared deep into the Denver night sky giving the Rockies the win in the bottom of the 12th inning Friday night.
Jesus.
While this definitely stings, this one pitch isn’t indicative of the bullpen situation as of late. Check out this tweet from NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Corey Seidman.
The Phillies’ bullpen, by the way, has been awesome during this stretch, pitching 28 innings the last six games with a 1.93 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and .177 opponents’ batting average. Last night sure wasn’t on the ‘pen.

If I were to place the blame somewhere, it would be on the offense. To score three runs on 17 hits is damn near impossible, yet here we are. Sure, it’s easy to look at Nicasio and point the finger, but this loss is purely on the offense.
With two more games against the Rockies, the Phillies need to get some sort of momentum to keep pace with a competitive National League East; they turn to their ace in game three. It doesn’t take an analytics expert to see that Aaron Nola hasn’t been himself so far this season. Saturday night in Denver, he has the chance to take a step in the right direction and give his team a much needed win.
