However, of all the crazy things that happened to the Phillies Monday night in their 5-1 loss to the New York Mets, the strangest may have come from the broadcast booth. The club’s all-time hits leader, Jimmy Rollins, is also a hit on the commentary team. After six and a half innings of Rollins talking about trap music and the good old days, he made his first call that he would probably like to have back.
In the bottom of the 7th inning with the bases loaded, reliever Juan Nicasio’s first pitch to Mets rookie Pete Alonso plunked him just above the elbow to walk in another run. While that put the Phillies down by three, it was Rollins reaction that was the bigger story. Hear it for yourself.

Hey, it was late and the Phillies were losing; it was a Freudian slip. It happens to the best of us.
The overall consensus, even after the slip up, is that Rollins debut in the booth was a success.

This is my first time hearing Jimmy Rollins on color commentary and while it’s a little bumpy right now, he has everything I’d want from a broadcaster that you can’t teach.

J-Roll is a treasure and Philadelphia should be looking forward to hearing him in the booth for at least the remainder of the season.
