4. Closing Soon: Site/Sound Festival

Site/Sound, the large-scale art installations created through sound and light projection, ends this weekend. The festival has presented a diverse mix of Jazz, Folk, World, Contemporary Classical, Soundscapes, and Electronic music, as well as dance and performance art. This Saturday there is a sand mandala meditation and performances.

6. Rent at the Merriam Theater

The Merriam Theater will be lit up with talent when Rent comes to town this weekend. Jonathan Larson’s show-stopping and hit musical is full of phenomenal songs and follows the interlocked lives of seven struggling artists following their dreams.

7. Pennsylvania Wine Month

October is Pennsylvania Wine Month. There are special things to do, taste, and discover all across the city. High Street on Market. Several great locations like High Street on Market, Fond, Good King Tavern, and several other establishments have selected great wines for you. Jet Wine Bar will have a wine garden event featuring local wines this Saturday. From flights of PA wines to an expanded wine glass menu, there’s something for everyone.

8. Witches & Wizards Weekend in Chestnut Hill

Each year Chestnut Hill gets taken over by aspiring wizards and Quidditch players. The 2019 Chestnut Hill Harry Potter Festival & Quidditch Tournament begins this Friday. There will be plenty of activities including a Brotherly Love Cup Quidditch Tournament, a costume contest, a Brews & Broomsticks Pub Crawl, and more at this magical gathering.

9. Oktoberfest at 23rd Street Armory

When: October 18-19
The 23rd Street Armory will be fueling the area with German beers and cultural cuisine all weekend long. There will be live music each day of this event. There will be four overall sessions during the three-day event in which up to 1,600 people will have the option to drink a multitude of samples.

16. Harvest Festival at Reading Terminal Market

The 2017 Reading Terminal Market Harvest festival is this Saturday. Filbert Street will be shut down to accommodate this massive local event. 17. HRTS in the Park

This Saturday, Philadelphia upcycle artist Eazy Denim will be hosting a free HRTS in the Park art class in LOVE Park. The HRTS in the Park painting experience is intended to bring the Philadelphia community together by providing an outlet for children to freely express their creativity. Using his knowledge of art, artist Eazy Denim will guide and assist participants throughout the two-hour art extravaganza. HRTS in the Park is a free children’s painting experience and is limited to 50 participants. Attendees will be provided art supplies and HRT pins to decorate, free of charge.

18. Peoplehood Parade

The Ebenezer Maxwell Mansion welcomes you to this murder mystery event. This year’s interactive play Who Killed Shakespeare? features a wild unfolding ride. One of Shakespeare’s characters killed the famous playwright. You’ll get a clipboard with a list of suspects. As you move from room to room inside the Mansion, you’ll have to put the pieces together.
