Nick Sirianni will be the new Eagles head coach, according to reports

The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly hiring Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni as their new head coach according to Adam Schefter. Drawing a close on their widely cast coaching search, Sirianni brings an NFL resume full of experience to the Eagles. Like his predecessor, Doug Pederson, Sirianni has little experience calling plays from the sideline. But he has helped cultivate an improving offense during his three years in Indianapolis.

Sirianni, 39, has been working under Frank Reich, who went to the Colts after helping Pederson and Nick Foles lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl LII championship. He’s previously worked on both the Chiefs (offensive quality control, assistant quarterbacks coach, and wide receivers coach) and Chargers (offensive quality control, quarterbacks coach, and wide receivers coach).

In the past three seasons, the Colts offense under Reich and Sirianni ranked:

  • 2018: 10th
  • 2019: 19th
  • 2020: 12th

During the search, the Eagles also considered Patriots linebackers coach Jerod Mayo and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, Saints defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, Eagles assistant head coach/running backs coach Duce Staley, Panthers offensive coordinator Joe Brady, Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, and Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles.

The Eagles fired Doug Pederson (4-11) last Monday after five seasons.

With the Eagles hiring Sirianni, the Texans have the only remaining head coaching vacancy in the NFL.

As of this writing, the Eagles have not officially announced the news.
