Larry Henry JrThe Philadelphia Eagles went toe-to-toe with one of the underrated teams in the AFC, but fell just short of a shocking home win.
Dustin Hopkins’ 29-yard game-winning field goal helped the Los Angeles Chargers leave Lincoln Financial Field with a 27-24 win over the Eagles. Jalen Hurts accounted for 234 total yards and one touchdown while DeVonta Smith registered 116 receiving yards in the defeat.

Justin Herbert’s impressive day in Philly started off with a two-yard touchdown pass to Stephen Anderson just before the end of the first quarter. It capped off a six-play, 38-yard drive for the Chargers and put the Eagles under early pressure at home.
The Eagles would fight back though before the end of the quarter, seeing tailback Jordan Howard tie things up at 7-7 after a four-yard score. It was a 10-play, 75-yard drive from Nick Sirianni’s offense to gain some momentum.

Jake Elliott’s 24-yard field goal put the Eagles in front 10-7, which is a lead the hosts took into halftime.
Hopkins’ 30-yard field goal tied things upon in the third quarter before Herbert’s eight-yard touchdown pass to Donald Parham put Los Angeles back in front 16-10. It was consecutive positive drives for the Chargers offense, who weren’t done on the afternoon.
Kenneth Gainwell’s one-yard score up the middle propelled the Eagles back in front before the end of the quarter, but Herbert called his own number on the ensuing Chargers drive, scoring from eight yards out for a 24-17 lead.

Hurts found Smith deep for 28-yards with 6:16 remaining to swing the Eagles in front one final time, in what looked like a game-winning drive for the hosts. Herbert and his teammates had other ideas, driving down the field and eventually taking advantage of a smart play from Austin Ekeler.

Ekeler’s 16-yard scamper set Hopkins up for a 29-yard field goal, which the veteran kicker nailed down the middle for a 27-24 win for the Chargers. It was a sensational drive for the visitors, who accounted for 69 yards over 15 plays to stick the dagger in the Eagles’ chances of an upset victory.
The Chargers outgained the Eagles 445-331, with Herbert finishing with 356 passing yards on 32-of-38 attempts and Keenan Allen registering 104 yards receiving.
Philly (3-5) will try to rebound next weekend with a trip to face the Denver Broncos on November 14.
