The Eagles made a few tweaks to the back of the roster Monday, signing wide receiver Freddie Martino and releasing wide receiver John Harris. The team also waived/injured defensive end Frances Mays, who suffered an injury to his finger tendon.
Martino was most recently a member of the Atlanta Falcons, where he spent time alternating between the practice squad and the active roster during the 2014 season. He made his debut against the Ravens last year, and was released by the Falcons last Friday.
The 6 foot, 195 pound receiver is facing some stiff competition at the receiver position, where anywhere from five to six receivers are locks to make the roster: first round pick Nelson Agholor, last year’s picks Jordan Matthews and Josh Huff, as well as veterans Riley Cooper, Miles Austin and Seyi Ajirotutu.
Still, a receiver with NFL experience would make a valuable addition to the practice squad. Martino may have signed too close to the first preseason game to see much meaningful time, but he should be a player worth watching during the final three games.

Monday’s moves bring the roster to 89 players. However, rookie cornerback JaCorey Shepherd suffered an ACL tear during practice Sunday, meaning another roster spot will open up in the very likely event he is placed on season-ending injured reserve.
The Eagles did not practice Monday, but training camp resumes Tuesday through Friday. The team has a walkthrough Saturday before playing the first preseason game of the year Saturday afternoon at home against the Indianapolis Colts.
