Morning Brew for August 3, 2015

Finally, we have football. The Eagles kicked off training camp yesterday, but it wasn’t without a bit of drama as the recently traded Brandon Boykin essentially threw Chip Belly under that yellow bus of racism – the third to do so in Kelly’s short time as Eagles head coach.

We’ll have a lot more on Boykin’s comments, and Chip’s response, a little bit later. But, for now, we focus on the happenings of the weekend… and Ronda Rousey.

I’m in love.

The Phillies lost yesterday. Which is weird. Because they keep winning so many games. Not like it matters. But it’s been fun to watch.

A couple of bench clearers yesterday, but nothing substantial. I’m telling you, the warmer it gets, the more baseball players have PMS. I should know. I am one. Here’s one between the Royals and Blue Jays. [which includes our old friend, Ryan Madson] Here’s one between the Reds and Pirates.

Dez Bryant is already getting into fights at Cowboys camp.

DeMarco Murray didn’t really practice much yesterday. Take a deep breath.

“Kelly said every player was cleared to participate, but DeMarco Murray didn’t appear to take any snaps during team drills. Ryan Mathews and Darren Sproles handled most of the running back carries with the first team offense. Murray isn’t slated to talk with reporters until tomorrow and the Eagles had no explanation for his limited play. I did notice Murray shagging passes from the quarterback during individual drills. Murray’s health and his durability are of obvious concern after last season (nearly 500 touches including the playoffs). The Eagles could just be allowing Murray to ease into camp.”

Brad Keselowski ran over his own pit crew.

LeSean McCoy’s party had “no weird orgy thing going on.”

Ron Hextall: “Brayden Schenn is not a priority.” [essentially]

Nick Kayal was on WIP with Josh Innes on Friday, and completely lambasted 97.5 The Fanatic and Mike Missanelli. Not sure about that move.

Of course we can’t have traveling robots in Philadelphia. They’re too cool. And there’s no way this doesn’t become a national story about us being assbags.

Chase Utley went 2-for-3 in his first rehab game.

The Bills suspended their offensive line coach for six games after an altercation with teenagers.

Jahlil Okafor does not care how old you are. He will block you.

Check out my retrospective on the wrestling career of the legendary “Rowdy” Roddy Piper here at The Philly Voice. I’ll be hopping on the podcast tomorrow to talk about Piper and his legacy.

If you’re a wrestling fan, make sure you tune into Wildfire Radio this Thursday night as The Straight Shooters debuts with yours truly and Philly.com’s Vaughn Johnson talking wrestling for one hour, beginning at 6:30 PM. The inaugural show will be a good one, I can promise you that.
