The Morning Brew for September 8, 2015

I hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend. The unofficial end of summer is always bittersweet, but I’m a huge fan of the cooler weather and a gazillion football games every weekend. Baseball playoffs are right around the corner, basketball and hockey are set to start soon, and the Pope’s coming to Philly later this month. Boring, right?

It’s definitely a busy time around here, so lock into PhillyInfluencer.com on your desktop, iPhone, iPad, Galaxy S4943, or whatever device you use! Our site is very mobile-friendly, so bookmark us on your home screen. You won’t regret it.

We have a huge edition of the Morning Brew today, so sit back, relax, and catch up on all the sports and entertainment news you need to know.

And now, the Brew:

One of my friends, Beka Marine, is walking in New York Fashion Week. This is a big deal because of who she is. Read her story.

The Eagles made their cuts on Saturday, and those cuts surprisingly included Tim Tebow. Sly probably isn’t a happy person right now.

The Eagles added a third quarterback on Sunday, picking up Jaguars’ cut Stephen Morris. Mike Kaye, who is now covering the Jaguars for First Coast News in Jacksonville after contributing to Bleeding Green Nation, isn’t a fan of Morris at all. Check out his timeline.

He’s still an Eagles fan deep down.

The Eagles signed 10 players to their practice squad. They are:

OL Brett Boyko
OL Malcolm Bunche
CB Randall Evans
WR Freddie Martino
DE Brian Mihalik
RB Raheem Mostert
TE Chris Pantale
WR Quron Pratt
S Ed Reynolds
LB Deontae Skinner

More on them at Bleeding Green Nation.

Our story about the Flyers fans launching a GoFundMe campaign to buy the Penguins has gone national. You’re welcome. [Let me just say this. When our page views hit six figures, we know you’ve seen our post.]

Jay Z and his daughter, Blue Ivy, were spotted at Talula’s Garden on Friday night. Blue Ivy tore it up doing the Nae Nae. Jay Z and Beyonce visited the restaurant again on Sunday.

Beyonce channeled her inner Ronda Rousey during her Made in America concert.

Temple’s football team defeated Penn State’s Saturday afternoon at the Linc for the Owls’ first victory over the Nittany Lions since 1941. We had sad Nittany Lions on our hands.

James Franklin wanted the refs to check the footballs during the game.

College football.

Kansas State’s marching band is awesome. And they had to apologize for it.

Domonic Brown may be done for the year, and Larry Bowa is apparently in the running for manager of the Marlins’ next season.

Matt Harvey didn’t give the media any answers on Saturday about whether he was going to or not going to pitch in the playoffs this year. That’s because he wrote this for The Players’ Tribune. He’s gonna pitch. Scott Boras, Harvey’s agent, likely isn’t happy.

As an aside, it was a foregone conclusion the Mets would make the playoffs as recent as a week ago. Not so much anymore. How hilarious would another September collapse be for the Metropolitans?

A moron jumped into the aisle on Monday Night Raw last night and wasn’t tackled.

Time to investigate.

This squirrel interrupted the U.S. Open.

These two players should be suspended for the rest of the season.

If they were told to do it by their coach, then fire the coach. No reason for that.

Guy just throws shit at fan, picks Cowboys #5 and Eagles #11 in his NFL power rankings.

The Sixers signed another point guard in Kendall Marshall. They also signed Christian Wood and J.P. Tokoto.

Apparently benching Robert Griffin III made Jay Gruden a lot of friends in the Redskins’ locker room. Teammates of Griffin are ecstatic, according to this TMZ report.

Several members of the Washington Redskins tell TMZ Sports … they’re PUMPED the team is benching RG3  … with one player saying, “Now we can start winning games.”

We spoke with a handful of Redskins players — all of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity — and they were all on the same page … they’ve been wanting the move for a while.

One player told us, “We’re relieved. This is good for the team.”

Another player was more blunt … saying, “We have a better chance of winning with [Kirk Cousins] than Robert Griffin. Sometimes teams need a change and we obviously did.”

Even the defense is excited — with one starter saying, “The team is excited with the change. We are all looking forward to Kirk leading us this season.”

RG3’s career = womp womp.

I’m just gonna leave this right here…
