After a second embarrassing loss in a string of three in a row last Sunday, an anonymous Eagles player accused DeMarco Murray of not playing with effort, according to The Inquirer‘s Jeff McLane. We hadn’t heard from Murray before the Thanksgiving Day game against the Lions, but after the game, he finally addressed those remarks, to which he seemed surprised to hear.
Murray, who is the 21st ranked running back in the league at the moment, responded to a questions about the anonymous teammate who called him out for a lack of effort, stemming from a running play in which he decided to slide down rather then get more yards and take on defenders head on.
“I got the first down, I was trying to keep the clock rolling. Obviously, I could have done anything else, I don’t know. I’ve done it a lot of times in my career. Just thought it was a smart play just to keep the clock running and get the first down, but, you know, I mean, my effort? I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t have effort.”

For the record, I don’t blame Murray in that case. You got the first down, why risk a fumble or injury at that point? If that was really the play this anonymous Eagles player is calling bullshit on, then something’s definitely wrong with this locker room and these players.
