Chip Kelly Calls out Jeff McLane before Ending Press Conference Abruptly

Earlier today, we posted about Jeff McLane’s story today about Chip Kelly reportedly calling LeSean McCoy earlier this week and McCoy hanging up on him. It was a great addition to the week-long drama that we’ve been dealing with.

I’m not gonna lie, it’s been very entertaining. People have either been pro-McCoy and anti-Chip for most of the week. Here’s what McLane said:

He tried again on Tuesday, according to sources with knowledge of the call. McCoy didn’t recognize the number and answered. When Kelly identified himself, McCoy hung up. On Wednesday, McCoy said he stood by offseason comments he made about Kelly’s not respecting stars and getting rid of all the “good black players.”

Some media member during Chip’s press conference asked him about the events leading up to the game, but didn’t mention that story directly. But Chip brought up the story and then basically left McLane out to dry and then ended his press conference.

Q: You spent a lot of this past week answering questions about stuff that’s really not related to on the field. Did you feel like at any point it became a distraction to the team? And how do you think, if so, they responded?
 
A: No. A lot of it to me is tabloid journalism that they’re just trying to stir things up. But, it doesn’t affect us. We were playing the Buffalo Bills and they’re a really well-coached team by Rex Ryan that has a lot of really good players. But, when people want to make up false stories about me calling someone during the week and them hanging up on me, it’s like people trying to get Twitter hits or things like that to make themselves significant when shit doesn’t happen.
 
Q: So you never called McCoy?
 
A: No. I never called McCoy this week. But, was it the Inquirer? Was that you?
