Why Are We Wearing LeSean McCoy Jerseys to Today’s Game?

So, I understand that LeSean McCoy was one of the best running backs in Eagles history in the short time he was here. I was one of his biggest fans when he was juking and jiving in the snow two years ago. He was an Eagle. We thought he might be an Eagle forever.

And then he got traded to Buffalo. We tried to justify why it was a good move – Chip Kelly’s offense is plug and play, Kiko Alonso would be better for the defense, and McCoy didn’t have a great season last year anyway, so maybe he was beginning that decline that running backs in the NFL so often see very quickly. As of today, it doesn’t look like the best move Chip has made, especially given that Alonso has been invisible on the field since coming back from a bad knee injury, and McCoy’s main replacement in DeMarco Murray is about to be benched and likely get shipped out of town during the offseason. So, I get it.

What I don’t get is why today of all days we have Eagles fans in the parking lot wearing their now old school McCoy jerseys.

McCoy, for all intents and purposes, is still in his prime. He’s the enemy right now. It’s not nearly the time to be paying homage to this guy, especially during a home game in mid-December that has every playoff implication at play for both teams. You guys miss McCoy? That’s great. But you just made a stupid move wearing a stupid jersey around stupid, drunk fans. Good luck.

We root for the team on the front, not the name on the back, right?
