We told you how Eagles’ running backs coach Duce Staley has already interviewed to become head coach of the Eagles and how Adam Gase appears to be the frontrunner for the job. Now, a new report has surfaced and it lists a name familiar to Eagles’ history who is expected to become a leading candidate for head coach of the Eagles.
Per Adam Schefter and his sources, Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson is set to be on top of the Eagles’ wish list for head coach.
Pederson was a quarterback in the NFL for 12 years, some of those with the Eagles. He helped groomed rookie Donovan McNabb in 1999 to become Philadelphia’s franchise quarterback. Pederson returned to the Eagles from 2009-2012 as the quarterbacks coach.
Chiefs OC Doug Pederson expected to be a leading candidate for Philadelphia HC job, per sources. Pederson coached in Philly from 2009-12.

I could absolutely see the Eagles pulling the trigger on Pederson as Eagles head coach. He seems like a guy that won’t ruffle any feathers within management. Andy Reid and Pederson have the Chiefs on a roll. Entering today, they’re the hottest team in football at 10-5. They’ve won nine games in a row.
What do you guys think? Would you be okay with Pederson as head coach of the Eagles? Let is know on social media and the comments section.
UPDATE: Derrick Gunn just said on Eagles Pregame Live that Schefter’s report is bogus and that the talk of Pederson being the Eagles leading candidate for head coach is false.
UPDATE II: Jay Glazer has stated that the Eagles did in fact call Pederson. So if you’re keeping track at home it’s two against one. It’s team Jay Glazer and Adam Schefter against Derrick Gunn.
Here’s Glazer confirming on FOX NFL Sunday that the Eagles reached out to Andy Reid for advice on their coaching search, in which at that point Pederson’s name came up.
I have a feeling that this won’t be the last of it.
Streaky is Reid’s style, was in Philly & KC. Pederson hardly groomed McNabb. McNabb had skills that prior to him the Eagles stunk under Pederson & others. What it smells like ? Returning to Reid era without being able to actually have Andy Reid. I mean Pederson offensive mindset, talk of getting McDermott as a potential defensive mindset ?
I know it sounds like semantics but there’s a big difference between “the leading candidate” and “a leading candidate”. Schefter said the latter, which means that Pederson will be one of the top choices. It does not mean that he is THE top choice, however.
