Business is starting to pick up in the search for the next coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. We’ve told you about Duce Staley interviewing for the position, along with the Eagles’ reported interest in Adam Gase and Doug Pederson. Now, you can add two more guys to the list. Wait for it….
Enter New York Giants offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo and Detroit defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, per a new report from FOX Sports. Are you excited about these new prospects? Yeah, I didn’t think so. Neither am I.
Besides McAdoo’s current role with the Giants, he’s been Packers’ quarterbacks coach in 2012 and 2013. McAdoo has also coached the tight ends on Mike McCarthy’s staff from 2006-2011. Should Tom Coughlin not be the Coach of the Giants next year, I’m hoping that they consider replacing him with McAdoo as a report is stating via AOL Sports.
Even worse of a head coaching option in my eyes would be Teryl Austin. Austin was the defensive back’s coach in Seattle from 2003-2006 and took that same position with the Cardinals from 2007-2009. After a brief stay in college with the Florida Gators, Austin was the Ravens’ secondary coach from 2011-2013 before joining the Lions for his current position. Austin receives high praise from around the league, but the job he’s done with the Lions is average at best.
I’d prefer the Eagles stay far, far away from these two. There are plenty of attractive potential coaching candidates out there. There’s no need for them to waste their time on these two Schmoes.
