Nineteen year old Sevdet Besim (Pictured below) is on trial for allegedly planning a terror attack that involved packing a kangaroo full of explosives and unleashing them on Melbourne police officers last year. Prosecutors are saying it was an Islamic State-inspired plot. Besim was arrested last April and he was committed to trial this week.
Prosecutors summarized in court the alleged conversation from an online communication that, “…conversation continues with detailing what Besim did that day and they have a general discussion around animals and wildlife in Australia including a suggestion that a kangaroo could be packed with C4 explosive, painted with the IS symbol and set loose on police officers.”
Shortly after this online conversation, Police say that Besim visited websites related to Anzac Day, a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand commemorating those who served and died in past wars or conflicts.
Besim was charged, but pleaded not guilty, with intentionally doing an act in preparation for, or planning, a terrorist act. Besim was placed in custody and will face the Victorian Supreme Court on February 3.
Kangaroo lives definitely matter.
People would have been hopping mad.
