Rangers’ Head Coach Goes on Fiery Rant about the Non-Suspension for Wayne Simmonds

New York Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault ripped the league on Monday for not suspending Wayne Simmonds for his hit that resulted in a match penalty on Saturday.

Vigneault spoke with reporters and said that he was told by officials that Simmonds received a misconduct for throwing a stick, which is an automatic three-game suspension.

Vigneault had this to say, courtesy of Yahoo! Sports:

What I didn’t expect was the reaction from the league. An All-Star player gets sucker-punched, goes down. I wonder if that’s (Sidney) Crosby, what happens? What are the consequences? And, on top of that, a player breaks his stick, throws it at the referees. In the rulebook, that’s automatic. It’s three games. Nothing happens. It’s not even on the sheet after the game. “And the referee came to me and I said, ‘Am I getting a power play here?’ and he said, ‘No, he’s getting a game misconduct for throwing his stick at us. And it’s not on the sheet. I think maybe you guys (the media) should call the league and find out what happened because obviously we’re getting different answers.”

The Rangers’ head coach wasn’t done yet either as he had some words for the Flyers’ player that said that Ryan McDonagh faked his injury, an injury where there’s no timetable for McDonagh’s return to the ice.

“Tell them to go to his house, today.”

Someone is a little fired up.
