We’ve had a few readers continue to point out that the Phillies’ radio contract with CBS Radio ran out after this past season and while we reached out to various people to get information, they remained tight-lipped on any ongoing negotiations. But today, WIP announced they’ve agreed on a new deal to broadcast Phillies games for at least the 2016 season. Here are some of the details, via Philly.com:
The Phillies and SportsRadio 94WIP have extended the partnership that makes the CBS-owned radio station the team’s home.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, nor was the length of the deal. But this much is certain: games will no longer air on WPHT 1210-AM, which was the flagship station in the Philadelphia market for many years. Starting this season, 94.1-FM will be the only station in the city airing Phillies games.
In its announcement, WIP confirmed that the popular broadcast crew of Scott Franzke, Larry Anderson and Jim Jackson will remain in the booth.
Along with airing the games themselves, WIP will continue to air half-hour pregame and postgame shows around each broadcast.
Interesting that 1210 won’t be airing games anymore, especially since I enjoyed listening to that station as they were ahead of WIP’s broadcast. And since WIP will be the only station in Philly airing Phillies games, what happens in September when the Eagles start playing on Sunday afternoons?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm……………………………………………………
The Phillies would move to WOGL if the Eagles were on WIP, happened that way last year too when you had both stations… I remember hearing the Phillies on WOGL when the Eagles on WIP… I know because WDEL here in Wilmington, DE usually broadcasts both teams as well but they would broadcast the Eagles on Sundays so I had to listen to WOGL.
