There Will Be Some Flyers Flavor in the World Cup of Hockey Later This Year

Later this fall, the World Cup of Hockey featuring some NHL talent will take place in Toronto. The countries that will be participating in the tournament are as follows:

Canada
United States
Russia
Sweden
Finland
Czech Republic
Team North America (23-and-under players)
Team Europe (the rest of Europe)

The Flyers will have some of their own talent in the tournament, as Jake Voracek, Radko Gudas and Michal Neuvirth all got the nod for the Czech Republic. Sean Couturier was also named to Team North America, which is a mix of United States and Canadian players under 23 years of age.

Mark Streit was chosen for Team Europe.

However, one glaring omission from Team Canada is the captain of the Flyers, as Claude Giroux hasn’t been named – yet – to the squad. Teams have until June 1st to officially fill out their rosters, but no Giroux right now, with a great crop of forwards already chosen for Canada [including Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews, Steven Stamkos, Jeff Carter, John Tavares, Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin, Patrice Bergeron and Ryan Getzlaf], Giroux might just find himself on the outside looking in come June. He’s trying to not let it bother him.

It’s something I can’t really control,” Giroux said. “It’s not the end of the world. It’s not the final team, so I’m not going to worry about it too much.”
