Steve Mason is being benched. It’s not his fault. Sure, he’s given up a few soft goals in this series, but I’m willing to bet it’s more of him losing faith of the players in front of him than anything. Maybe he’s hurt. He did the splits in Game 2 and hasn’t really been the same since. In fact, I’d rather know he’s battling an injury because I love the guy. We haven’t had a solid goaltender like him in this city in a long time.
But, that’s not good enough. With the Flyers trailing the series against the Capitals, 3-0, Dave Hakstol is putting Michal Neuvirth between the pipes tonight. With Mason sporting a 4.09 GAA and a .852 save %, it’s not exactly surprising. Hopefully Neuvirth can spark the team to at least one win this series. And make saves like this:
