Sam Bradford apparently thought signing a two-year contract – which is essentially a one-year contract – with the Eagles was going to lead to long-term success. At least, that’s the only thing I can think of, because Bradford’s acting like a petulant child and requesting a trade from the Eagles, which was broken by Adam Schefter and is now being reported by other media outlets.
And now, it appears the Eagles were blindsided by Bradford’s trade request, but won’t get rid of him, according to Ian Rapoport. He’s their starter, and they’re not budging. Nor should they, because they gave Bradford a ton of money and there’s no way Carson Wentz will start this season. Rapoport doesn’t even think the Eagles have an option to trade him, although a reunion with Mark Sanchez in Denver seems to be the most obvious destination.
If this is posturing by everybody involved, it’s about run its course. Bradford doesn’t have the clout to demand anything at this point because he hasn’t even proven to be a quarterback that an NFL franchise can count on. The Eagles, which could have very likely leaked the report about Bradford wanting a trade, could be coercing him into staying, though this would be an odd way to do it.
If this continues, and Bradford doesn’t “come around,” I fail to see how this situation works out before the season starts. Bradford needs to go. There’s too much smoke in this fire.
