A lot of Eagles content gets published each day, so here’s a recap of your Eagles news from this past week.
I’m sure many of you have read the OTA practice reports. The Philadelphia Eagles beat reporters have all had their say and made their observations. Some have had different opinions than others, but you know what my advice to you is?
Don’t read any of it!
It’s May, the Eagles are practicing without pads. What happens now doesn’t hold much credence to what you’ll see in Training Camp, the preseason and regular season. And even during Training Camp, don’t take much stock into what you see or hear then either. For example, it seemed like every year that Curtis Marsh was having a good Training Camp.
Look how he turned out!
I understand that Carson Wentz is Philadelphia’s new toy and you want to read all about him. I’m really excited about him too, but this is going to be a long and grueling process before we even see him take a regular season snap in the NFL. Let’s exhibit a bit of patience, let’s not look too much into anything right now.
The next practice open to the media is Tuesday. Take what you read with a grain of salt.
On to the links:
Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich made some interesting comments during a guest appearance on the WIP Morning Show on Wednesday. He doesn’t see Sam Bradford as the clear-cut starting quarterback, at least not yet.
Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz spoke Tuesday about the state of the Eagles’ defense. He may not have wanted to talk about Fletcher Cox, but he addressed numerous other topics, including whether Malcolm Jenkins and Rodney McLeod are the best safety pair in the NFL, Marcus Smith and his potential, all the ex-Bills Philadelphia brought in and more.
Jay Wright and the Villanova Wildcats might be visiting the White House Tuesday, but before he goes to see the president, Wright stopped by the NovaCare Complex Monday and spoke to the team.
The USA Today unveiled their NFL head coach rankings this past week and Eagles head coach Doug Pederson checked in at No. 30. Considering he’s never coached a game in the NFL, it’s difficult to rank him, but we’ll see where he ranks this time next season. Former Eagles coach Chip Kelly was No. 11 and Andy Reid was No. 10. Speaking of Kelly, NFL Network’s Maurice Jones-Drew went off on the San Francisco 49ers head coach in an interview with TMZ.
Rams general manager Les Snead opened up about the Sam Bradford trade during a guest appearance on Peter Schrager’s podcast. He said that he knew Nick Foles might not work out.
Is Smith due for a big season? Is it possible that he can surpass his career high in sacks? You may not be able to tell, but I’m being very sarcastic. By the way, his career high in sacks is 1 1/2, set last season.
Like Snead, Howie Roseman also made a guest appearance on Schrager’s podcast this week. He pretty much opened up about his entire career as a general manager.
