Catching up with the Birds: NFL Draft Edition

A lot of Eagles content gets published each day, so here’s a recap of your Eagles news from this past week.

The Eagles were primed to select Carson Wentz.

They got their guy.

Thursday night at the NFL draft, the Eagles selected Wentz second overall to a raucous crowd at Nick’s Roast Beef on Cottman Ave. We were there.

If you didn’t join us for our draft party, you missed out. But we’ll catch you up with some of the things you may have missed after the draft as well as during.

On to the links:

LET THE CARSON WENTZ ERA BEGIN!

Here’s your first look at Wentz in midnight green. He’ll also be wearing No. 11. Wentz gave his first press conference in Philly on Friday and was pretty impressive. He comes off as a mature guy wise beyond his years. That may be why Jeffrey Lurie and Howie Roseman were sold on him.

Fans Old guys trying to make a buck hounded Carson Wentz for autographs when he touched down Friday. Then one booed him. Stay classy, Philly. Maybe now the NFL won’t bring next year’s draft here.

Before he reached Philly, however, Wentz was on the WIP Morning Show and gave a great interview. You can listen to the interview here.

Even though the Eagles drafted Wentz, Roseman still says Sam Bradford isn’t going anywhere. Maybe that’s because they think he’s a lying little shit after Doug Pederson said they did let Bradford know of their plans to draft a quarterback in the first round of the draft days after Bradford’s agent, Tom Condon, said they didn’t have a clue the Eagles would do that.

We’ve broken down Wentz’s last two FCS championship games. You can check out the highlights here and here.

One of the coolest things to see is players in the draft being called by the team that’s drafting them and letting them know what’s about to go down. The Eagles’ front office did that with Wentz moments before they drafted him. It was a little… awkward.

Carson Wentz explained why he’s a franchise quarterback.

The Eagles drafted versatile offensive lineman, Isaac Seumalo, in the third round, with the 79th overall pick. Why is he versatile? Because he has 37 career starts, with 23 of them coming at center. What does that mean for Jason Kelce? It might not mean much. Seumalo has also played nine games at right guard, three at left tackle and a pair on the other side at right tackle. He’s more suited to play inside as opposed to the outside.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Eagles’ fifth-round draft picks: RB Wendell Smallwood and OL Halapoulivaati Vaitai.

Here’s also everything you need to know about their sixth-round draft pick: DB Blake Countess.

Here are the undrafted free agents the Eagles signed Saturday:

Sam Bradford is a petulant child. Nothing worse than being an adult and being called a petulant child. I would know.

Merrill Reese thinks Bradford is the starter for the Eagles in Week 1.

And while Rich Eisen likes to take his fair share of shots at Philly fans, despite him saying he loves them, Philly native Mike Mayock stuck up for us on Saturday when Eisen took another shot at us. Thanks, Mike!
