Report: Eagles Expect to Sign Carson Wentz to a Deal Today

After signing all of their draft picks last week, the Eagles have one draft pick remaining to ink. That’d be their future franchise quarterback, Carson Wentz. ESPN’s Ed Werder reports the Eagles expect Wentz to sign a deal when he arrives in Philly today. It’ll be interesting to see the numbers, but this really never had a chance of not happening. According to Pro Football Talk, Wentz will make over $26 million in four years with the Eagles.

The deal is a formality, and Wentz will make around $26.67 million in four years, with the team holding the option for a fifth. He’ll be the highest-picked player to sign so far, and will remain so until top pick Jared Goff decides to sign.

And once he gets there, the clock will officially be ticking on Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford, who returned to work Monday after a failed trade demand which didn’t work because only one team really wanted him and they took a quarterback in the first round instead.

The Eagles clearly view Wentz as their future, which is why Bradford was steamed to begin with, but they need someone to play stable pony until he’s ready.

Wentzamania is officially underway. Well, soon.
