Marlon Byrd Suspended 162 Games for Another Positive PED Test

Former Phillie Marlon Byrd has been suspended for the second time in his Major League Baseball career, this time getting a 162-game ban for

Cleveland Indians outfielder Marlon Byrd has been suspended for violating Major League Baseball’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs, multiple sources reported on Wednesday.

It is Byrd’s second career suspension, and one more violation of the policy would earn him a lifetime ban from Major League Baseball. Byrd was suspended for 50 games during the 2012 season while a member of the Boston Red Sox.

I’m guessing Byrd won’t be able to afford another suspension, given he’d be facing a lifetime ban. Though, would any team take him next June when he’s two months away from 40 years of age? He’s probably looking at becoming a coach now if he wants to stay in the league after his playing career.

In current Phillies news, they’ve traded for utility fielder Jimmy Paredes from the Blue Jays in return for cash. Paredes was designated for assignment a few days ago.
