The Morning Brew for June 6: RIP Muhammad Ali

The weekend started on a somber note as the world lost one of the greatest boxers in the world, Muhammad Ali.

Ali was a polarizing figure through much of his adult life. No, he didn’t dodge a draft. He didn’t believe in the war he was being sent to fight and he took the punishment. If people want to exonerate Michael Vick for his past crimes because he did the time, nobody should believe Ali “dodged” the draft, because he took the punishment head on.

Of course, as soon as Ali passed away on Friday night, there were people trying to push their agendas. I’m not going to list any of them here because they’re completely ridiculous. Some of them have been people I’ve known most of my life. It’s embarrassing that we’ve grown up in the same world together and they’ve completely lost touch about what makes life worth living.

Be happy. Don’t hate. It’s a waste of time. On that note, let’s get your week started right.

And now, the brew:

Ali’s final days.

UFC kicked out and banned the best MMA reporter out there from their pay-per-view Saturday night before the main event began. More on this later.

Catching up with the Birds.

Adrian took a look at Doug Pederson’s playcalling during the Chiefs’ Week 13 tilt against the Raiders last season.

Pederson also expects to see Fletcher Cox and Darren Sproles at mandatory OTAs this week.

Ryan Howard had a beer bottle thrown at him after Saturday’s game.

The NBA Finals are probably over. The Warriors killed the Cavaliers last night, 110-77. Some highlights:

Brock Lesnar is returning to UFC next month for UFC 200. WWE has allowed Lesnar to do the fight, and I’m sure we’ll see some kind of favor in return from UFC. Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania next year? Stay tuned.

Here’s the statement WWE released moments after it was officially announced.

Brock Lesnar remains under contract to WWE, however, he has been granted a one-off opportunity to compete at UFC 200. Following this milestone event on July 9, Brock will return to WWE for SummerSlam on Sunday, August 21, live on WWE Network.”

Here’s how the Lesnar return was made official. Watch it until the end.

Speaking of UFC, Michael Bisping finally won a title in the promotion after 10 years, becoming the UFC Middleweight Champion after beating Luke Rockhold.

Here’s what he said after the fight.

Brandon Boykin has a degenerative hip condition, which would explain a lot.

The rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz is now official for September’s UFC 202. I guess that “dream fight” between McGregor and Floyd Mayweather will have to wait. Or maybe not.

Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib was shot in the leg in a Dallas nightclub over the weekend.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, multiple Broncos officials (including coach Gary Kubiak) have spoken with Talib, who has told the team he is fine. At this point, Talib remains hospitalized primarily for the purposes of observations.

The Broncos currently anticipate that he won’t be cleared by doctors to make the trip with the rest of the team to Washington on Monday to visit the White House. Obviously, that’s a minor concern for a guy who could have ended up in much worse shape than he currently is.

The details of the shooting remain unclear. According to Liz Farmer of the Dallas Morning News, a “customer pulled a gun and shot one person” inside the V Live club in Dallas, and a second person “was wounded outside the club as the fight continued.”

Multiple theories are making the rounds among players and other league insiders. The Broncos are still attempting determine exactly how Talib was injured, and who specifically pulled the trigger.

More Ali:

The New York Times posted this video tribute to Ali, with former and current reporters talking about how he became an international icon.

The Sixers’ new practice facility is going to be much more than just a building.

The Sharks won their first-ever the Stanley Cup Final game in overtime Saturday night. This Finnish announcer went nuts.

The Penguins currently lead the series, 2-1. Game 4 is tonight on NBC at 8:00 P.M.

Gregg Murphy is awesome.

New Yorkers be crazy, yo.

An assistant principal at a Staten Island elementary school slashed his ex-wife’s former lover — reaching through his rival’s driver’s side window with a razor blade as a long-simmering feud turned bloody on Saturday, police sources said.

The noon attack happened along a quiet block of Great Kills, just blocks from the home PS 22 educator Vincent Scotto, 43, shared with his wife and two kids.

Victim John Carosella, 59, had allegedly harassed Scotto’s family — driving past their house at all hours, and even getting out to scream “Whore!” — ever since the wife ended the long-term affair two years ago, sources and neighbors told The Post.

Maybe they should change the name of that street. Just saying.

NBA Jamin real life:

This cameraman falling off his chair after being hit with a soccer ball is hilarious.
