The Phillies aren’t playing well anymore. It’s not phun watching them play anymore. Even during the games they lost earlier this season, the Phillies actually had a shot at winning and played rather well.
But since their 24-17 start, the Phillies have gone 6-20 and have been demolished by teams in regular fashion. Last night was no exception, as the Blue Jays took a 8-0 lead by the time the bottom of the fourth inning rolled around. After the game, Pete Mackanin had a closed-door meeting with his team.
But what’s even more embarrassing, and which seems to happen relatively frequently in baseball, is players losing track of how many outs there are. And last night in the top of the eighth inning, while down 10-1, Odubel Herrera lost track of how many outs there were and threw the ball in the stands after making a catch that made… two … two outs.
Yikes. Hopefully this is rock bottom for this season? The Phillies are 30-37 now and 12 games behind the Nationals. Womp.
