BGN Radio Is Heading to WIP

The people over at Bleeding Green Nation are great, and our Eagles draft party was a rousing success. So, it’s no surprise that John Barchard, Brandon Lee Gowton and the rest of the guys over there are a hot commodity in sports talk radio nowadays.

The group had their own time slot on Sunday mornings at 97.5 The Fanatic last football season, but now they’ve moved on to 94 WIP, where they will have a two-hour time slot on Saturdays during football season. The BGN show will air 4-6 P.M. on Saturdays, and move to 6-8 P.M. after baseball season.

John Barchard, the amazing vocals behind BGN and a former co-host of Sean Brace on The Philly Influencer Live Podcast, was also hired as part of the on-air staff. He’ll be rolling solo for two hours after the BGN show.

“It’s another win for the good guys,” Brace said about Barchard’s hiring and BGN Radio heading to WIP. “After the recent news of Quincy Harris getting his own show on FOX, John Barchard gets his shot with WIP. He’s one of the hardest working and nicest dudes in the business.”

I can vouch for that. I was also a guest on BGN Radio during our draft party back in April, so you may refer to me as a sort of BGN Radio alum of sorts.

“Hats off to WIP for realizing how big of a platform and how big of a fanbase BGN has,” Brace added. “Podcasting is the future.”

And we’re hearing WIP isn’t done making moves yet. Stay tuned.

UPDATE: It looks like Glen Macnow will join Barchard on the air.

Here’s the official press release:

BGN Radio, BleedingGreenNation.com’s weekly podcast, has officially agreed to team up with SportsRadio 94WIP for the 2016 NFL season.

“We are very humbled and grateful that Spike Eskin and SportsRadio 94WIP sought us out to be a part of their programing this year,” said main host John Barchard. “To be a part of the station that created sports radio in Philadelphia is truly an honor and I can’t tell you how excited we all are to walk into that building. Spike get us and as podcaster himself, I think that really helps us. He sold me on coming over to WIP almost immediately. I don’t think I’ve met someone that is so easy to communicate with and has a deep understanding of where the radio industry is and also where it needs to be going. This a dream come true. When we started the podcast three years ago I don’t think we ever had this in mind even though it’s something we all really wanted.”

“We are very excited to be teaming up with SportsRadio 94WIP,” said site manager and editor-in-chief Brandon Gowton. “This partnership marks a huge achievement in the history of our show. None of our success would be possible without the loyal support from the Bleeding Green Nation community, along with the hard work of main host John Barchard and the rest of the BGN Radio crew. A special thanks goes out to Spike Eskin for believing in us. Together, 94WIP and BGN Radio will deliver high quality Eagles programming throughout the 2016 season.”

The show will air for two hours every Saturday afternoon during the Eagles season with the exact time to be determined.

John Barchard and Brandon Gowton founded the BGN Radio podcast together back in 2013 as an expansion of BleedingGreenNation.com. The podcast originally started with an average listenership of about 300 listeners. They have now grown that base to about 13,000 with some episodes getting 30,000 to 35,000 total listeners.

The BGN Radio podcast can be heard two times a week during the season with episodes posted on Mondays and Fridays. This year they will also being doing live remotes at local business around the Philadelphia area along with the podcast and radio show. Along with the BGN Radio show, John Barchard has also been hired by 94WIP to be a part of the on-air staff.

Also announced earlier this month is that the BGN crew is launching BGNRadio.com and expanding the programming to include three new weekly shows that will focus on the NFL Draft, College Football, Fantasy Football and more. Those new shows are set to officially launch during the second week of August.
