Chip Kelly wasn’t always forthcoming to reporters, or even to the people who he shared the NovaCare building with. And it doesn’t sound like he’ll be too forthcoming to those fine people out in San Francisco. Yesterday, he answered a reporter’s question about hypotheticals with his own hypotheticals. It was a hypothetical about hypotheticals. Holy hypotheticals.
“I’m not a big hypothetical guy,” [reporter says he isn’t, either] … “Well, if you’re not, then why’d you ask? This is my deal with hypotheticals, because everyone wants to use them to some degree. If we’re going to use hypotheticals, we should cancel the season, cause hypothetically we won the Super Bowl. Let’s go all out with the hypotheticals, let’s say we won the Super Bowl, so it’s over. And we did it without a quarterback in the hypothetical world that I live in. Wouldn’t that be cool? But it doesn’t work that way. We’re a real literal, black-and-white deal. We’re going to sit down when we find out exactly who’s available. I would hope that based on what he’s done so far, he’s going to be available. If he’s going to be available, he’s going to play.”
Gotta love Chip. Or hate him. I still remember when he was furious at Jeff McLane over a report that he called LeSean McCoy on the phone. Maybe his finest moment as Eagles head coach.
Apparently the hypothetical situation was whether Colin Kaepernick was available or unavailable to play. Which is actually important to know, and not exactly the type of throwaway hypothetical question Chip hates.
