Report: Chris Givens Has Been Cut

The first Philadelphia Eagles roster cut surprise came Sunday afternoon, at least to many.

Wide receiver Chris Givens has reportedly been released, according to NFL Network insider Rand Getlin.

I wasn’t surprised by this move, I called it earlier this week in one of my Philly Influencer Facebook Live videos. Givens has shown nothing since his rookie season. He had one catch in three preseason games and is a one-trick pony; he runs fast.

With Lane Johnson being out – most likely – until Week 10, we’re going to see a lot of quick, three-step drops from Sam Bradford to hide the pass blocking deficiencies of the offensive line. By the way, that line held up nicely last night against the Indianapolis Colts. For Givens to get deep, Bradford would obviously need to take deeper drops for Givens’ routes to materialize.

And speaking of vertical threats, Dorial Green-Beckham is a better one anyway.

Givens signed a one-year deal with the Eagles during the offseason and played for the Rams with Bradford while they were both in St. Louis.

The roster currently stands at 83 players and needs to be trimmed to 75 by August 30th.
