Yes, It Was the Browns … But …

They stink.

I know.

Carson Wentz tossed a pair of touchdown passes in his NFL debut, completing 22-of-37 of his tosses for 278 yards, and the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Cleveland Browns 29-10 on Sunday afternoon.

Forget about the opponent for a second and consider looking into this. Wentz is an FCS quarterback that was barking and calling audibles at the line of scrimmage and head coach Doug Pederson let him throw the ball 37 times. He let him toss it on 4th-and-4. He wasn’t supposed to be ready for the speed of the game, but where Wentz is fast  is with his mind. We’re talking about Browns defensive coordinator Ray Horton here. He shows multiple fronts and blitzes from everywhere, and the No. 2 overall pick calmly and cooly made all the proper line calls.

Let me prove my point with this great tweet from Adam Caplan.

That’s insane!

Here are the third and fourth down plays.

How about the two touchdown passes? The coverage on those tosses wasn’t bad, Wentz just beat it with superior prowess. Each throw was perfect and hit the receiver in stride, no wasted momentum.

These balls weren’t just dimes, they were quarters.

You heard that barking on the second throw, right? That was impressive, and the accuracy of the ball was impeccable.  So yea, the Browns are the Browns, but that’s still faster than Alabama. Wentz handled himself magnificently. It’s one of 16, let’s see what he’s got in store playing in front of a national audience and being on the road for the first time in Week 2 against the Chicago Bears in the Windy City.

The Wentz Wagon didn’t hit any speed bumps in this one.
