Jason Peters has never won a Super Bowl ring, let alone a playoff game during his seven-year stay with the Philadelphia Eagles.
He doesn’t want to leave Philly without one.
Peters explained Sunday, via CSN Philly that he sees a lot of potential in rookie quarterback Carson Wentz and believes he can stick around in the league long enough before Wentz reaches his upside and the Eagles are ready to contend for that ring.
Carson’s got a lot of upside. I feel like if we get the right pieces in here to help him a little bit, not saying that we don’t have them, but we don’t have the firepower that we normally have every year. That just is what it is. At the end of the day, he has a lot of upside and I would definitely come back and try to protect his blindside again … I really want a ring. It would be sad to play all these years and not even get close.
Peters has bounced back nicely in head coach Doug Pederson’s slow-and-methodical offense after struggling last season with nagging injuries during Chip Kelly’s final year as the head coach in Philadelphia and his up-tempo attack.
The problem for 34-year-old is his cap hit next season, which will be $11.2 million. Are the Eagles willing to pay that huge number?
