Freddie Mitchell Blames Nelson Agholor for Greg Lewis’ Firing

A lot of blame can be pointed at the Eagles’ wide receivers for how this past season panned out. Bad route running, terrible drops, and the fact that no wide receiver seemed to get better as the weeks went on during the season. So, naturally, someone had to pay the price. Today, that someone was Greg Lewis, who was the Eagles’ wide receivers coach this past season.

Freddie Mitchell, a one-time Eagles receiver and apparent expert on NFL firings, who’s also probably a good friend of Lewis, blamed Nelson Agholor for Lewis getting canned by the Eagles earlier today.

No question, Agholor’s season was beyond terrible. A high draft pick and he’s pretty much done nothing noteworthy in the NFL in two seasons. For some teams, that’s cause to completely cut ties. However, the Eagles seem to be holding onto Agholor, so Lewis had to pay the price.

It’s not like Jordan Matthews, Josh Huff [when he was here], Dorial Green-Beckham and any other receiver had anything resembling a good season. Firing Lewis isn’t a surprise to me, and for the argument one can make about how he was a coach for only one year and needs time, the fact that no wide receiver improved this season speaks volumes. I’m not looking at stats – this is where the eye test can clearly show that these receivers cost the team quite a bit.

“Probably a good friend of Greg Lewis.” This is complete conjecture. If you call yourself a journalist, this is unacceptable.
The Eagles wide receivers don’t catch with their hands, they let the ball play them. They fall down after catches and rarely get any YAC.
Lewis should have been fired 6 weeks ago, when a real coach could have made a difference.
