What’s Happening in Philly This Weekend: Feb. 24-26

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and culture places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. 1. Person of the Crowd Party and Exhibit Launch Weekend


Where: The Barnes Foundation, 2025 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Friday, February 24th, 6PM-9PM

The Barnes Foundation will be hosting an opening night party for the exhibit Person of the Crowd: The Contemporary Art of Flânerie. The gathering is $20 for entry and will celebrate this collection that highlights more than 50 artist. There will be various  performers within the party to stimulate this rich artistic experience.

2. Final Fridays: The Lonely Hearts Club


Where: Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2600 Benjamin franklin Pkwy.
When: Friday, February 24th, 5PM-8:45PM

The Philadelphia Museum of Art continuing Art After 5 series will have many activities to draw you in this Friday. There will be a book artist doing a workshop on pop-up cards, a silent disco, a sexology discussion, and an in-gallery Shakespeare themed performance. Eliza Hardy Jones will provide the music for this free admission event.

3. Philadelphia Fashion Week


Where: Various locations and events
When: Running through Saturday, February 25th

Philadelphia Fashion Week kicked-off on Tuesday, February 21st. The clothing and style demonstrations will come to an end this Saturday. The weekend boasts a “The Business of Fashion Panel” and “The Runway II”. The panel is free with an RSVP. Tickets to get into the runway show are $40 and $80 for VIP entrance.

4. International House Carnival


Where: International House, 3701 Chestnut St.
When: Friday, February 24th, 7PM

International House celebrates the esteemed culture of Carnival this Friday night. For $10 you will be able to dance, see the wondrous costumes, music, and more of this Brazilian and Caribbean extravaganza. There will be live music by DJ King,  dance performances by the Greater Philadelphia Caribbean Cultural Organization Masqueraders, cuisine, and more.

5. Dorothy


Where: The Fillmore Philadelphia, 29 E Allen St.
When: Friday, February 24th, 9PM

Whether you took notice after they were named fourteenth on Rolling Stone Magazine’s “50 Best New Artists List” or heard their songs on scripted TV shows, the rise of rock band Dorothy is something to take notice of. The California band will takeover The Fillmore performing many songs from their debut studio album ROCKISDEAD.

6. Philly Codefest


Where: Behrakis Grand Hall, Drexel University, 3120 Chestnut St.
When: Saturday February 25th-Sunday, February 26th

Drexel University will be hosting Philly Codefest. The event will be a 36-hour surging and fast-paced hacking event. The fest will have tech leaders, mentors, and representatives from some of Philadelphia’s leading tech companies in attendance. It’s open to individuals and teams of all skill levels. This will be a great opportunity to collaborate, network, and push yourself to the limit.

7. Party at Reading Terminal Market


Where: Reading Terminal Market, 51 N. 12th St.
When: Saturday February 25th, 7:30PM-11:30PM

The 7th Annual Party for the Market is this Saturday. There will be food bursting with flavor, dancing, live entertainment, and performances. This is a fundraising event with proceeds going to he preservation and upkeep of the Reading Terminal Market. Tickets are $90 for individuals aged 21-35 and $175 for others.

8. Marian and The People


Where: Marian Anderson Historical Society & Museum, 762 Martin St.
When: Saturday February 25th, 10AM-4PM

This weekend would’ve been the 120th birthday of beloved and enchanting Philadelphia resident Marian Anderson. The Marian Anderson Historical Society and Museum will be celebrating the famous singer all day with a fantastic lineup of events. Tickets are $5. There will be live performances, a dessert bar, and the opening of the new exhibition Marian & The People.

9. Penn Museum Celebration of African Cultures


Where: Penn Museum, 3260 South St.
When: Saturday February 25th, 11AM-4PM

Penn Museum celebrates the collective tapestry that makes up global culture numerous times throughout the year. The institute continues the city-wide Black History Month celebration with its Celebration of African Cultures. There will be traditional and modern African music, dance, and more. Guest will get a chance to partake in arts, crafts, drumming workshops, African marketplaces, and gallery tours. General admission gets you into the event for free.

10. Strawberry Mansion A Freedom To Go Forth


Where: 2450 Strawberry Mansion Dr.
When: Saturday February 25th, 12PM-4PM

For just one day, the Historic Strawberry Mansion will highlight the exhibit A Freedom to Go Forth. There will be collectibles from the Lest We Forget Slavery Museum and precious artifacts from this shocking time in American history. Curators will be in attendance to discuss the pieces in the Judge Lewis collection.

11. Broad Street Legends Viewing Party


Where: Revolutions at Penn Treaty, 1009 Canal St.
When: Saturday February 25th, 6PM

Revolutions at Penn Treaty will be screening the outdoor series between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Pittsburg Penguins. Along with the game, hockey great Brian Poppi will be there. A $10 donation will get you access to plenty of drink specials. The festivities  benefit TBI Angel. There will be great drinks, Flyers hockey on the big screen, a legend, and plenty of food to go around.

12. Philly Bierfest


Where: German Society of Pennsylvania, 611 Spring Garden St.
When: Saturday February 25th, 2PM-5:30PM

The German Society of Pennsylvania will hosting their 6th annual Bierfest this weekend. There will be a wide selection of German style pilsners, weizens, lagers, and more.  This is a family-friendly event that will have live music, rafter-roaring, roller-derby arm wrestling, crafts, and other activities. 13. Kennett Winterfest


Where: 600 South Broad St. Kennett Square, PA
When: Saturday February 25th, 12:30PM-4PM

More than sixty brews will be on full display at the Kennett Winterfest this Saturday. There will be a lengthy variety of craft beers, live music provided by Shady Groove, and numerous food trucks in the vicinity. General admission is $60. There are also Designated and VIP ticket choices. Come experience and enjoy these winter brews at this welcoming community event.

14. Mardi Gras 2017 at XFINITY Live!


Where: XFINITY Live!, 1100 Pattison Ave.
When: Saturday February 25th, 9PM

XFINITY Live! gears up for Mardi Gras in style. Break out your beads and come out to this yellow, green, and purple themed event. There will be several bead contests, hula hoop demonstrators, stilt walkers, a $500 cash prize for balloon dropping, and so much more. There will also be a live musical performance by Drop Dead Sexy.

15. Mardi Gras Bar Crawl


Where: Various locations including The Gaslight, 120 Market St.
When: Saturday February 25th, 2PM-8PM

Bar Crawl Nation will be taking over Old City this weekend. Over 1,000 people will come together for one of the wildest crawls of the year. Your cover for entry into the 10 participating bars is taken care of. There will be a drink specials, a souvenir mug, a scorecard to keep track of your drinks, a celebratory t-shirt, and beads all around. Tickets are $25.

16. Excision 2017 Tour


Where: The Fillmore Philadelphia, 29 E Allen St.
When: Saturday February 25th, 7PM

Excision 2017 Tour featuring The Paradox will ignite The Fillmore stage and energize the crazed  crowd in attendance this Saturday. The powerhouse dubstep DJ and producer released his third studio album last year titled Virus. The DJ brings with him a great sound, a 150,000 watt stereo system, and an illuminating video and light production.

17. The Internet


Where: Trocadero Theatre, 1003 Arch St.
When: Saturday February 25th, 8PM

The Internet is a Los Angeles native R&B and hip hop soul band. The Grammy nominated and talented group consists of Syd, Matt Martians, Patrick Paige II, Christopher Smith, and Steve Lacy. The Trocadero crowd will be swept away by the smooth vocals, tactical musicianship, and raw lyricism.

18. Panic! at the Disco


Where: Wells Fargo Center, 361 S. Broad St.
When: Saturday February 25th, 7PM

Rock band Panic! at the Disco simmered onto the scene back in 2005 with their highly popular album A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out.  The track I Write Sins Not Tragedies” catapulted them to chart success. The band released its fifth record Death of a Bachelor last year and will be livening up the Wells Fargo Stage this Saturday night.

19. Cocktail Class at El Rey


Where: El Rey, 2013 Chestnut St.
When: Sunday February 26th, 6:30PM-8:30PM

Have you ever wondered what it takes to make a truly great cocktail? For $70 Starr Restaurants offers you an answer to that question. El Rey will be hosting a cocktail class this Sunday. The instructional format will have the eatery’s experienced bartenders leading the demonstration. There will be  snakes included as you learn how to make five key and signature cocktails. 20. Game of Thrones Live


Where: Wells Fargo Center, 361 S. Broad St.
When: Sunday February 26th, 8PM

Winter is coming to the Wells Fargo Center. A full orchestra will be playing some of the most moving, energetic, and haunting pieces from one of the most successful franchises in television history. This will be a multimedia spectacle with effects. Scenes from the show will be on display illustrating dragons, fire, and more. This event is a fully engaging experience for GOT fans of all ages. Come and have a fun time  until the “Rains of Castamere” plays.

21. Ro James


Where: The Foundry, 29 E. Allen St.
When: Sunday February 26th, 8PM

Sultry and alluring R&B singer Ro James brings his debut headlining tour to Philadelphia weekend. After releasing his first studio album Eldorado in 2016, James received vast critical acclaim and toured with Maxwell. He’ll be singing several songs from the project including the known track “Permission,” “A.D.I.D.A.S.”, and more. Tickets are $20 for this Revolt sponsored concert.

22. PFS Awards Night


Where: Prince Theater, 1412 Chestnut St.
When: Sunday February 26th, 7:30PM

The 88th Academy Awards are this Sunday. Prince Theater will be hosting its 4th Annual Awards Night Party & Screening. Come see who the winner is on film and cinema’s biggest night. There will be a red carpet, champagne, drinks, and Hollywood glam and opulence all around. Tickets are $50 in advance and $65 at the door.
