If there’s one thing that has united Eagles fans these last few years – and we know it hasn’t been the product they’ve been putting on the field – it’s been the rise of the Kelly Green Movementâ„¢. Since 2010’s season opener against the Green Bay Packers, many Eagles fans, myself included, have been clamoring for a return to the Kelly green Eagles jerseys that looked so phenomenal that I actually get annoyed when the team wears their midnight green jerseys now. And with the rising popularity of this movement, the Eagles – Jeffrey Lurie in particular – wanted to bring back the classic style as a third jersey. He said as much on Tuesday night during the NFL Annual Meeting in Phoenix.
“I want to see us use Kelly green as our alternate and Thursday night-type of uniform. The only thing blocking us is we can’t get the Kelly green helmet yet. That’s what we’re waiting for,” Lurie said. “We’re going to keep pushing at it. … My hope is that we’ll be able to get it done by next March.”
The Eagles put forth a proposal for an alternate helmet, but apparently there are safety issues that the “league has to resolve.” Lurie’s proposal was recently withdrawn after finding out it would not pass this year, but he isn’t giving up hope.
“We’re going to keep at it because we’re really determined. … I would love to see it the sooner the better. First, I want to try it as an alternate, try to have it for two or three games, see if people like it. That was the goal to try to make that happen. I’m really confident we’ll be able to, but when is that?
“I love the midnight green. I think it’s great, but I also want the Kelly green.”
With Lurie’s stamp on this team going on 23 years, I’d love a switch back to Kelly green full-time and have the midnight green as the alternate. Keep the black jerseys, too. They’re pretty sweet. But, you know, a Super Bowl would be sweeter.

Yeah, since it’s been about 10 years or so, I can see why Mr Lurie would want to change (to a popular) jersey. Personally, I think it would be GREAT as an alternative jersey, bringing back the “roots” to the eagles. What I am concerned about is that, so long as it is the “alternate”, and not the regular, it wouldn’t render the midnight green (or black) obsolete! There’s already enough of the current team jerseys, with former players out there, save for Dawkins (I’ll even throw McNabb in there), being worn. If the current ones were changed, imagine all the obsolete that would be out there ! It would undoubtedly add another revenue stream for the owner’s coffers !
