The Eagles Acquire Timmy Jernigan from the Ravens

The Philadelphia Eagles just found their replacement for Bennie Logan.

And they might’ve just upgraded.

The Eagles swapped third-round picks with the Baltimore Ravens in the upcoming NFL Draft for Timmy Jernigan, moving down 25 spots from pick No. 74 to 99 to acquire the 24-year-old defensive tackle.

Jernigan, who is entering the final year of his rookie deal, is a solid run stuffer that can also get to the quarterback. He totaled five of his 13 career sacks last season and led the Ravens defensive line in hurries. The 2014 second-round selection was a solid contributor on the Baltimore defensive line, but he’s a looming free agent and the Ravens have a slew of young linemen like Carl Davis, Michael Pierce, Bronson Kaufusi and Willie Henry. Jernigan was expendable.

Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome explained this in a statement released by the Ravens.

“Timmy has been a terrific player for us for three seasons. This will allow our young group of defensive linemen an opportunity to compete and play.”

This was a very solid get by the Birds.
