What’s Happening in Philly This Weekend: May 26-28

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and culture places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. Events Running Through the Weekend:

 

1. Revolutionary: A Pop-Up Street Art Exhibition


Where: Various locations
When: Thursday, May 25th-Tuesday, July 4th

From Spruce Street Harbor Park to Franklin Square, this pop up Philadelphia art show will be highlighting 13 of the most creative individuals in Philadelphia for over a month. The curated works and pieces are meant to depict each artist’s concept of what  the term “revolution” means to them.

2. Historic Philadelphia Inc. 


Where: Various locations
When: Thursday, May 25th-Friday, May 26th

Historic Philadelphia Inc. has rolled out its summer programming of several wonderful events. There will be Benjamin Franklin personalized tours, pub crawls, City Tavern after hours, movie nights, a Betsy Ross Flag Festival, and plenty more lively activities at various historic settings.

3. Art After 5


Where: Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2600 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Friday, May 26th, 5PM-8:45PM

Art After 5 remains one of the most entertaining and innovative events in the city each Friday. This weekend there will be technology filled artistic demos, a ChickTech meet up, DIY art with The Franklin Institute and The Hickory, and a fantastic live musical performance. As always, there will be plenty of food and beverages.

4. Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest


Where: Blue Cross RiverRink, 101 S. Christopher Columbus Blvd.
When: Opens Friday, May 26th

This weekend marks the opening of the waterfront treasure Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest. This year there will be a 200 seat Chickie’s and Pete’s Waterfront Crabshack. Come out to skate to tunes spun by DJ Jazzy Jeff this Friday. Be sure to come back each week to enjoy the special games, the scenery, and beverages throughout the entire season.

5. Rick Ross


Where: The Fillmore Philadelphia, 29 E. Allen St.
When: Friday, May 26th, 9PM

Hip hop act Rick Ross will be supporting his latest release Rather You Than Me with this highly anticipated tour under the same name.  The Fillmore Philadelphia will be the place to be to see the Miami product and “Trap Tap Trap” rapper this Friday.

6. Wale


Where: Theater of the Living Arts, 334 South St.
When: Friday, May 26th, 8PM

Speaking of rappers and the Maybach Music Group, Wale will be playing the Theater of the Living Arts the same night. Fresh off his celebrated Shine record, the D.C. rapper and Grammy nominee will be bringing his poignant lyricism and flow to the city this Friday night.

7. Fifth Harmony


Where: The Mann Center, 5201 Parkside Ave.
When: Friday, May 26th, 7 PM

Normani Kordei can fill the angst from her recent “Dancing with the Stars” loss by serenading thousands of her local fans at The Mann Center. Fifth Harmony will be taking over the outdoor amphitheater this Friday night. Come see the “Work From Home” hitmakers.

8. Phillies


Where: Citizens Bank Park, 1 Bank Way
When: Friday, May 26th, Saturday, May 27th, and Sunday, May 28th.

The 15-29 Philadelphia Phillies will be hosting three home games this Memorial Day Weekend at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies have been struggling to find their footing this season and are owners of a marginal winning record. Here’s hoping the series against the Cincinnati Reds brings good fortune and winning ways.

9. Makers Market at The Schmidt’s Commons


Where: The Schmidt’s Commons, 1001 N. 2nd St.
When: Saturday, May 27th, 10AM-6PM

The Schmidt’s Commons welcomes you to their exciting and community open air market. This Northern Liberties landmark will have artists, crafters, a farmers market, and many vendors selling handmade goods. There will also be free yoga from 11 a.m.-12 p.m.

10. A Mirror Maze at The Franklin Institute 


Where: The Franklin Institute, 222 North 20th St.
When: Saturday, May 27th-Monday, September 4th

The Franklin Institute has always been one of the best places in the city for exploration and wonder. This Saturday signifies the opening of the A Mirror Maze: Numbers In Nature exhibit. This display includes a giant 17,000 square foot mirror maze. The featured maze highlights the educational tools of mathematics, tessellation, and pattern recognition to navigate it.

11. Wine and Mimosa Tasting Like a Pro


Where: Pinot Boutique, 227 Market Street.
When: Saturday, May 27th-Sunday, May 28th, various times

Pinot Boutique is known for hosting many daily wine tastings throughout the year. This Saturday there will be a Wines and Beers of the American Revolution tasting at 4 p.m. The location also hosts Saturday afternoon sips for regular tastings. This Sunday there will also be a mimosa weekend brunch tasting every hour between 1 p.m.-5 p.m.

12. Punchline Philly Cookout


Where: Punch Line Philly, 33 E. Laurel St.
When: Saturday, May 27th, 3PM-67PM

Punch Line Philly will be hosting a special comedy day party, evening show, and after party this Saturday. Acts Tony Woods, DJ Cash Money, and more will be featured at this Memorial Day themed event. Your ticket includes meals and entry into this comical day party.

13. Garden Railway Grand Opening


Where:Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania, 100 E. Northwestern Ave.
When: Saturday, May 27th, 10AM-12:30PM

The Morris Arboretum has over 12,000 plants in its lustrous collection. There are so many amazing sculptures, pathways, and more in this beautiful landscape gem. This weekend marks the opening of the Garden Railway. There will be craft activities for kids all day as well.

14. Hoagie Nation Festival 


Where: Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing, 601 N Columbus Blvd.
When: Saturday, May 27th, 2PM

Everyone from the “You Make My Dreams” singers Daryl Hall & John Oates to R&B singer Vivian Green will be performing at the 2017 Hoagie Nation Festival. Presented by Dietz & Watson, this musical showcase will have plenty of food, tons of drinks, and acts from almost every genre and music.

15. Philly POPS Memorial Day Concert


Where: The Mann Center, 5201 Parkside Ave.
When: Saturday, May 27th, 7PM

The Comcast NBCUniveral Memorial Salute concert is this Saturday night. Conductor Larry Blank will the lead the Philly Pops through a mesmerizing commemorative concert lineup. The musicians will be joined by several local choirs as they perform songbook classics. Bring your picnic and blanket to this great holiday tradition. This is a free event for all.

16. Steve Aoki


Where: NOTO Philadelphia, 1209 Vine St.
When: Sunday, May 28th, &PM

EDM and electronic house musician DJ Steve Aoki will be thundering up the turntables this Sunday at NOTO Philadelphia. The Grammy nominee has collaborated with many successful acts throughout his musical career. The latest album from the energizing act titled Kolony is rumored to be coming out this year.

17. Penn’s Landing Waterfront Day


Where: Various locations
When: Sunday, May 28th, 11:30AM-10PM

This wekend is the First Annual Penn’s Landing Waterfront Day. Moshulu will be opening The Deck to offer outdoor dining and drinking. The Spirit of Philadelphia will be hosting a special dinner cruise, Independence Seaport Museum will have paddle boat specials, and Battleship New Jersey will host hourly raffles.  There will be so many great activities along the beautiful river banks this Sunday.

18. Memorial Day Weekend Philadelphia


Where: Various locations
When: Sunday, May 28th

The Penn’s Landing Waterfront fireworks will not be only dazzling event that you need to etch into your Sunday calendar. The Independence National Park, The National Constitution Center, and Museum of the American Revolution will be hosting several patriotic events throughout the day. The Please Touch Museum will also be having a beach party on both Saturday and Sunday.
