Should the Eagles Make a Switch at Left Guard?

The trade of Allen Barbre looks worse with each passing week.

The Philadelphia Eagles surrendered six sacks to the Kansas City Chiefs’ ferocious defense during Sunday’s 27-20 Week 2 loss. Left guard Isaac Seumalo was responsible for four of them. He was completely overwhelmed by the interior of the Chiefs’ defensive line and his play has been so bad the first two weeks that you have to consider benching him against the New York Giants.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said he never considered taking Seumalo out of the game despite his poor performance.

I got a lot of confidence in Isaac. Without evaluating the film, I don’t want to point fingers.

I’ll do the finger-pointing for ya Doug, he wasn’t very good. This type of horrendous play can’t continue. If Pederson elects to start Seumalo again and he struggles, I’d expect that he has a short leash, but if it were me I’m making a change to Stefen Wisniewski. Wisniewski played well when thrust into action a year ago and was rewarded with a three-year extension during the offseason.

Aside from Seumalo, I really didn’t think the pass protection as a whole was terrible. The six sacks yielded was a combination of Seumalo strugling and Carson Wentz holding onto the ball too long.

We’ll see if a change is indeed made at left guard next Sunday.
