What’s Happening in Philly This Weekend: November 24-26

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and culture places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. Events Running Through the Weekend

1. Deck the Halls Light Show at City Hall

Where: City Hall, 1401 John F. Kennedy Blvd.
When: Runs through Monday, January 1st

If you’ve past the downtown and Center City fixture of City Hall over the past week at night, you would’ve noticed the new and enhanced visualizations adorning the historic structure . The Deck The Halls Lightshow will be in town until January first. On weekdays the show starts at 5;30PM and continues every hour until 8:30PM. On weekends the show gets an added hour lasting until 9:30PM.

2. Finding Neverland

Where: Academy of Music, 240 S. Broad St.
When: Runs through Sunday, November 26th

Philadelphia is always gifting theater and music lovers with the most amazing performances.  The Academy of Music is putting on a magical show which the entire family can enjoy. Come see the critically-acclaimed and Academy Award wining film Finding Neverland brought to life through the lens music. The story of how Peter Pan, The Lost Boys, Tinkerbell, and others came to life shouldn’t be missed.

3. Christmas Village

Where: N. 15th St. and Arch St.
When: Runs through Sunday, December 24th

It’s that time of the year again. The edges of City Hall and the area around the revamped Love Park will be packed with many pop up wooden boutiques. The bustling mercantile village will have the best crafters in the Philadelphia in the same place. Come purchase your holiday gifts at this booming annual event peddling collectibles, art, jewelry, candles, food, beverages, lotions, and more.

4. Comcast Christmas Spectacular 

Where: The Comcast Center, 1701 John F. Kennedy Blvd.
When: Runs through Monday, January 1st

Speaking of annual holiday events, The Comcast Center’s Christmas Spectacular begins this week. The amazing LED panoramic screen in the commercial center will be broadcasting various holiday theatrical performances, concerts, images, and more. The daily shows begin at the top of each hour from 10:00AM–8:00PM. The attraction has brought millions out through the years.

5. Longwood Garden Christmas

Where: Longwood Gardens, 1001 Longwood Road, Kennett Sq.
When: Runs through Sunday, January 7th

Longwood Gardens always has a fantastic Christmas display. The conservatory will be trimmed and laced with several Christmas lights and fixtures. The massive colorful fountain will be dancing to your favorite holiday classics throughout the day. There will also be strolling carol singers, ornaments everywhere, and a half-million lights glowing throughout the park.

6. Macy’s Light Show

Where: Macy’s Center City, 1300 Market St.
When: Runs through Sunday, December 31st

Did somebody say lights? Each year Center City’s Macy’s gets you in gear for the holidays and fills their building with Christmas spirit. Over 100,000 LED lights will be vibrating along the walls and shimmering to the best holiday music coming from the Wanamaker Grand Organ. The store will also be fashioned thematically with their immersive and creative Dickens Village.

7. Morris Arboretum Holiday Garden Railway

Where: Morris Arboretum, 100 E. Northwestern Ave.
When: Runs through Sunday, December 31st

Morris Arboretum’s Holiday Garden Railway is quite a spectacle to see. Bring your entire family out to see the Christmas themed locomotion fixed with lights and festive trimmings. For Friday Night Lights events the facility will have The Pennsylvania Ballet’s George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker Sugar Plum Fairy and Mouse King do meet and greets. 8. Reading Terminal Holiday Railroad 

Where: Reading Terminal Market, 51 North 12th Street
When: Runs through Sunday, December 31st

Staying on the train theme, the Reading Terminal Market boasts a Holiday Railroad of its own. The food hotspot has a collection of five trains on the premises. Decorated to celebrate the joys of the Christmas season, the railroad will light up your kids faces as they see the merry trains whiz by.

9. Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest

Where: Blue Cross RiverRink, 101 S. Columbus Boulevard
When: Runs through Sunday, March 4th

The second holiday ice skating ring in the area is finally open! The Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest kicks into full gear this week. In its 24th year, the wintry themed entertainment center has a cabin selling great food and beverages, a kid’s lodge with arcade games, and of course a massive rink open each day.

10. Flyers vs. Islanders 

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Friday, November 24th, 4PM

The Philadelphia Flyers will be continuing their series against the New York Islanders this Friday afternoon.  The 4PM contest will put two middle of the road teams with similar records against each other. With all of your family in town, there’s no better way to spend your Black Friday then watching your favorite team on the ice.

11. Santa Express 

Where: Dilworth Park, 15th and Market St.
When: Friday, November 24th, 10:30AM-12PM

Docking at the Rothman Rink this Friday morning is the SEPTA Santa Express. The subway cars will be decorated and fashioned to highlight the holidays. The festive train cars will also be filled with musical entertainment and more. On Friday, there will also be a parade with Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the elves. Guests will be able to skate with Santa during those hours.

12. Downtown Tree Lighting 

Where: Philadelphia City Hall, 1401 John F Kennedy Blvd.
When: Friday, November 24th, 5PM

The City Hall Christmas tree will be flickering bright bulbs beginning this Friday. Come out to annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony beginning at 5PM and concluding at 6:30PM. Mayor Jim Kenney will be in attendance along with live entertainment. There will also be free hot chocolate at this event.

13. A Christmas Carol

Where: Walnut Street Theatre, 525 Walnut St.
When: Runs through Saturday, December 23rd

This is the second mention of Charles Dickens inspiration on the list. The Walnut Street Theatre will be performing the seasonal classic A Christmas Carol through the end of next month. Come see these talented and wonderful performers liven up the theater and let them warm your heart with the Ebenezer Scrooge centered tale.

14. Small Business Saturday 

Where: Various locations
When: Saturday, November 25th

This Black Friday the object will be to celebrate, promote, and stimulate small business. Small Business Saturday will be taking over various sections of the city throughout the day. In your busy day of shopping and walking off your Thanksgiving meal, don’t forget to shop local.

15. Manayunk Tree Lighting 

Where: Canal View Park, 4420 Main St.
When: Saturday, November 25th, 5:30PM

The second tree lighting on the list will be nestled in the heart of Manayunk. The area known for all its hills and arching streets will be having its tree lighting celebration this Saturday evening.  Main Street will be filled with avid shoppers during the Small Business Saturday activities. Be sure to stop by Canal View Park to see the tree twinkle.

16. 76ers vs. Magic

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Saturday, November 25th, 7PM

Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid are enough. Do you really need other reason to come to the Wells Fargo Center to see the 76ers take on the Orlando Magic? The young and talent team look to continue their winning ways against the Eastern Conference foe. The building will be rocking and Sixers Nation will be jolting the atmosphere with excitement and noise.

17. Grand Illumination 

Where: American Heritage Credit Union, 2060 Red Lion Rd.
When: Saturday, November 25th, 7PM-9PM

Beginning at 7PM the horizon at the American Credit Union will be filled with specks of voluminous light and enchantment. The establishment’s annual lighting and fire works show is a glorious sight for the thousands that come out each year. The Philadelphia Boys Choir and The Fife and Drums of the Old Barracks will be in attendance. Benjamin Franklin and Betsy Ross will counting down to the lighting of the 40-foot Christmas tree.

18. Eagles vs. Bears

Where: Lincoln Financial Field, 1 Lincoln Financial Field Way
When: Sunday, November 26, 1PM

The Philadelphia Eagles sealed up a triumphant and resounding victory last week when they throttled the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night. This week the 9-1 team takes on the Chicago Bears at home.  Carson Wentz and company will be thrilling the crowd at Lincoln Financial Field this Sunday. Come out and watch the best team in the league notch another win.
