What’s Happening in Philly This Weekend: Dec. 22-24

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and cultural places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. Events Running Through the Weekend

1. Cut Your Own Christmas Tree

Where: Linvilla Orchards, 137 W Knowlton Rd. Media, PA

When: Runs through Saturday, December 23rd

If you’re living in procrastination city, USA and haven’t gotten a Christmas tree yet, Linvilla Orchards has the answer for you. The 40,000 Christmas tree farm has a multitude of 6′ to 10′ Douglass Fir trees. On Saturdays and Sundays, Santa Claus makes a visit to the lovely orchard.

2. Boathouse Row Light Show

Where: Boathouse Row, 1 Boathouse Row
When: Runs through Monday, December 25th, 6PM

Starting at 6PM, the houses on Boathouse Row glow with red, green, white, and silver to commemorate the Christmas holiday. The dazzling display concludes with a full-scale light show unifying all the houses with a memorable and exciting production. The shows last five minutes each day.

3. Disney On Ice

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 s. Broad St.
When: Runs through Monday, January 1st

This is one that the everyone in the family can enjoy. Disney On Ice is coming to the Wells Fargo Center this week. The Dare to Dream show will be a figure skating and animated spectacle that your children can’t miss. All the best Disney characters will be featured in this phenomenal, epic, and wondrous event.

4. The Philadelphia Orchestra

Where: Verizon Hall, 300 S. Broad Street
When: Runs through Friday, December 22nd

This Friday Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center will be filled with choral splendor and beautiful music. The Philadelphia Orchestra will be putting on a production of Messiah. The two-night performance will highlight the 1742 spiritual and seasonal work.

5. Michael Blackson

Where: Helium Comedy Club, 2031 Sansom St.
When: Wednesday, December 20th-Saturday, December 23rd

African funnyman Michael Blackson isn’t a stranger to the area. The comedian was at the Eagles vs. Giants game in the early Fall. This week he’ll be doing multiple shows at the Helium Comedy Club. Come see the Comic View, Hip Hop Squares, and All-Star Comedy Jam act before it’s too late.

6. Annie Lederman

Where: Punch Line Philly, 33 E. Laurel St.
When: Thursday, December 21st-Saturday, December 23rd

The laughs keep coming on this list as Annie Lederman is set to be front and center at Punch Line Philly over the next few days. The MTV’s Girl Code, Chelsea Lately, and We Have Issues comedian will be bringing some new material to her Philly stop. If you’re looking for a place to get a comedic relief during the bustling season, look no further.

7. Lil Uzi Vert

Where: The Liacouras Center, 1776 N. Broad St.
When: Friday, December 22nd, 7PM

Philadelphia native Lil Uzi Vert will be having his annual A Very Uzi Christmas concert this Friday night. The hip-hop act will also be bringing his charisma, stage presence, and unique sound to NOTO Philadelphia this Saturday night. The nightclub concert begins at 10PM.

8. SZA

Where: The Fillmore Philadelphia, 29 E. Allen St.
When: Friday, December 22nds, 8PM

R&B songstress SZA is having a great 2017. The Ctrl singer has been nominated for multiple Grammys and has worked with some of the top acts in music. From Kendrick Lamar, to Rihanna, and to Maroon 5, it seems everyone wants a piece of her sound. This Friday night she’ll be sharing it with a sold-out Philadelphia crowd. You’ll have to use all your resources to get a ticket to one of the hottest shows in town.

9. Liberty Flea

Where: Bok, 1901 S. 9th St.
When: Saturday, December 23rd, 10AM-5PM

Unique, handcrafted, and one-of-a-kind products are up for grabs this Saturday at Bok. The Liberty Flea will have plenty of collectibles to fulfill your last-minute shopping and gifts. The mercantile market will have plenty of vintage pieces, vinyl, clothes, jewelry, artwork, and more.

10. Storytime at The Lodge

Where: Blue Cross RiverRink, 121 N. Columbus Blvd.
When: Saturday, December 23rd, 11:30AM

The Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest is always one of the true gems of the holiday season. The rink hosts several thematic events, parties, and gatherings at its adjacent lodge. This Saturday bring your kids out for storytime. Books are chosen by the Free Library of Philadelphia and snacks and hot chocolate will be provided for the kids.

11. Build Your Own Gingerbread House

Where: Ritz-Carlton Philadelphia, 10 Avenue of the Arts
When: Saturday, December 23rd, 1PM-3PM

Continuing in the family theme, the Ritz-Carlton Philadelphia will be holding a gingerbread house decorating the event. Inside the Petite Ballroom guests will get access to Santa Claus, get a holiday apron, and more. You’ll be able to take your gingerbread house home and sip on small plates, drinks, and sparkling wine throughout the event.

12. Santa Visits the Market

Where: Reading Terminal Market, 12th St. and Arch St.
When: Saturday, December 23rd, 10AM-2PM

Santa will be making a stop at the Reading Terminal Market this Saturday morning. You’ll be able to take a free selfie with the holiday hero over the four hours. Come near Wursthaus Schmitz to run into Mr. Claus. You’ll also be able to stop by the holiday railroad at the food vending spot.

13. Saturday Wine Market

Where: Tria Café Wash West, 1137 Spruce St.
When: Saturday, December 23rd, 12PM-4PM

Tria Wine Director Michael “The Curator” McCaulley has selected eight wines that are sure to perk up your senses and will make a perfect pair with any meal. This week there will be holiday favorites to choose from. Come sip the highlights of Tria’s cellar. If you like them, the wines will be available for discounted purchase.

14. Paint Nite at Lucky Strike

Where: Lucky Strike, 1336 Chestnut St.
When: Saturday, December 23rd, 1PM

Bowling and entertainment hotspot will turn into an artistic party with flair this Saturday night. Paint Nite will give you the opportunity to create a personal and one-of-a-kind piece. Bring your friends and family our for an afternoon of drinks, laughs, fun, and painting this weekend.

15. Tap into the Force: The Last Jedi

Where: City Tap House University City, 3925 Walnut St.
When: Saturday, December 23rd, 5PM

City Tap House University City will be hosting a fantastic Star Wars themed event. There will be a pre-show costume party at the restaurant and taproom starting at 5PM. You’re ticket also covers entry into a 7:30PM screening of the blockbuster film. Victory Brewing Company will have two signature Star Wars themed beers for purchase at City Tap House.

16. Miracle Pop Up Bar

Where: ITV Philly, 1615 East Passyunk Ave.
When: Saturday, December 23rd, 5PM-2AM

The ITV Miracle Pop Up Bar’s last event is this Saturday. The holiday-themed cocktail and food fiesta has guest bartenders and drink specials each day. There will also be an Ugly Sweater Party this Saturday night with Chinese food being the main course served up all night.

17. Nightmare Before Christmas Dance Party

Where: The Barbary, 951 Frankford Ave.
When: Saturday, December 23rd, 10PM-2AM

Speaking of partying, The Barbary will be hosting a Christmas themed party unlike any you’ll see in the city this weekend. The Nightmare Before Christmas Dance Party will have a skeleton Jack Pumpkin King Santa Claus, a photo booth, creepy carols, ghoulish decorations, sinister drinks, and live music.

18. Christmas Eve Santa Cruise

Where: Spirit of Philadelphia, 401 S. Columbus Blvd.
When: Sunday, December 24th, 12:30PM

Philadelphia offers up plenty waterfront activities this holiday season. When you want to get in the open water try Spirit of Philadelphia’s Christmas Eve Cruise this weekend. You’ll be able to eat from the delicious buffet, see the Delaware River from this scenic vantage point, hear live music, and party it up with Santa Claus throughout the event.

19. Moo Shu Jew Show

Where: Ocean Harbor, 1023 Race St.
When: Sunday, December 24th, 6PM-9PM

Cory Kahaney has co-produced this annual comedic and seasonal masterwork. The 9th Annual Moo Shu Jew will have a multi-course Chinese meal and great stand up acts throughout the entire night. This year’s acts include Moody McCarthy, Marla Schultz, and Brad Zimmerman.
