What’s Happening in Philly This Weekend: Feb. 8-11

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and cultural places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. Events Running Through the Weekend

1. Eagles Super Bowl Parade After Party

Where: NOTO Philadelphia, 1209 Vine St.
When: Thursday, February 8th, 10PM

This event takes place on Thursday but when you’re the champs, the weekend begins when you say it does. This Thursday NOTO Philadelphia will host several players from our Super Bowl LII legends. Lil Uzi Vert will also be performing at this blowout and post-parade celebration.

2. A New Generation on the Podium

Where: Kimmel Center, 300 S. Broad Street
When: Thursday, February 8th-Saturday, February 10th

Come to Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center to hear the amazing musicianship and artistry of classical music. Conductor Mirga Gražinyte-Tyla, the music director of the City of Birmingham Symphony, will be making her Philadelphia Orchestra debut. The concert will include pieces by Mozart and Mahler.

3. Written on Skin

Where: Academy of Music, 240 S. Broad St.
When: Begins Friday, February 9th

The list jumps from the orchestra to the opera with George Benjamin’s Written on Skin. The Academy of Music will provide the backdrop for this powerful operatic tale of love, passion, and power. Come watch these tremendous performers portray the fading delights of marriage and its truly violent turn.

4. Philly Theatre Week

Where: Various locations
When: Thursday, February 8th-Sunday, February 18th

Speaking of out-of-this-world performers, Philly Theatre Week begins this week. Theatre Philadelphia will be hosting several theatrical events and activities throughout the next ten days. The Greater Philadelphia Region will be bursting with selective readings, productions, and plenty of sessions that the entire family can enjoy.

5. Dilworth Park Wintergarden Weekend

Where: Dilworth Park, 1 S. 15th. St.
When: Friday, February 9th and Saturday, February 10th

Dilworth Park has plenty of gatherings daily that attract droves of Philadelphians. The Rothman Institute Cabin will be hosting a karaoke night this Friday from 6PM-9PM.  The area’s stunning Wintergarden will also be hosting Valentine Flowers to Wear events. There will be two separate headpiece craft stations and times for adults and kids.

6. Bill Bellamy

Where: Punch Line Philly, 33 E. Laurel St.
When: Friday, February 9th-Saturday, February 10th

Known funnyman and actor Bill Bellamy will be bringing all the laughs to the Punch Line Philly stage for several nights. The Love Jones, How To Be A Player, and Love Stinks performer has toured across the world with his tremendous standup. Come hear the Def Comedy Jam alum this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

7. Chris Tucker

Where: SugarHouse Casino, 1001 N Delaware Ave.
When: Friday, February 9th & Saturday, February 10th, 9PM

Ignore the fact you can hear Chris Tucker’s voice saying “C’mon Lee” when you look at the above picture. The Money Talks, Rush Hour, and Friday comedian will be lighting up the SugarHouse Casino stage with his jokes and animated stage presence this weekend. Don’t miss this great figure in comedy.

8. 76ers Weekend

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Friday, February 9th & Saturday, February 10th, 7PM

The Philadelphia 76ers kept their grip on the 8th playoff spot in the Eastern conference when they knocked off the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night. They will look to keep the good times rolling when they take on the Pelicans and Clippers this weekend. Stop by the Wells Fargo Center to see the best young talent in the NBA.

9. Philadelphia Tattoo Arts Convention

Where: Pennsylvania Convention Center, 1101 Arch St.
When: Friday, February 9th-Sunday, February 11th

If you’re looking for inspiration for your pending  Nick Foles tattoo, you’ll find it at the Pennsylvania Convention Center this weekend. Several outstanding tattoo artists and vendors will be on full display. There will be exhibitions, demonstrations, food, drinks, and more at this creative annual event.

10. Penn Museum Olympics

Where: Penn Museum, 3260 South St.
When: Saturday, February 10th, 11AM-4PM

The 2018 Winter Olympics will begin soon. Penn Museum is commemorating and celebrating these athletic trials that began centuries ago with its very own Olympics event. Guest will be able to learn about the ancient games, be a part of a scavenger hunt, create crafts, and tour the museum.

11. Villanova vs. Butler

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Saturday, February 10th, 12PM

The number one team in the nation will be taking on the Butler Bulldogs (17-8) this Saturday in a Big East showdown. The Villanova Wildcats (22-1) are on a nine game winning streak and are looking to push it to ten. Come to the Wells Fargo Center before the madness of March begins.

12. Cornel West

Where: Parkway Central Library, 1901 Vine St.
When: Saturday, February 10th, 7:30PM

Race Matters, Democracy Matters, Hope on a Tightrope, and Black Prophetic Fire author Cornel West is world-renowned . The professor, activist, and philosopher will be holding a speaking engagement at the Parkway Central Library this Saturday. Come hear the thoughts and orations of this celebrated intellectual.

13. PhillyBloco’s Brazilian Carnaval/Mardi Gras Bash

Where: World Cafe Live, 3025 Walnut St.
When: Saturday, February 10th, 8:30PM

World Cafe Live will be hosting a Mardi Gras bash that will have you dancing the night away. Philly Bloco! will feature all the live music and pageantry of a Brazilian Carnival. There will be reggae, samba, funk, and other genres of music. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.

14. Mardi Gras 2018

Where: XFINITY Live!, 1100 Pattison Ave.
When: Saturday, February 10th, 9PM

XFINITY Live! will be hosting a Mardi Gras celebration of its own. There will be a $500 cash balloon drop, a bead contest with prizes, and incredible DJs throughout the venue. The entertainment center and bar will be filled with hula hoop dancers, stilt walkers, and of will be booming with drink specials.

15. Comes.Sit.Color

Where: Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, 118 N. Broad St.
When: Sunday, February 11th, 2PM-4PM

The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA) has something special that your entire family can enjoy. Family Arts Academy: Come.Sit.Color. is a wondrous drawing, coloring, illustration, and painting program. PAFA Alumnus, Jay McClellan will be teaching all in attendance the skill of creating animal portraits.

16. Paint Nite at Lucky Stike

Where: Lucky Strike, 1336 Chestnut St.
When: Sunday, February 11th, 1PM

Paint Nite will be having an Always and Forever sips and art event. Bring your spouse or friends out for a night of creating magic on the canvas whole drinking great wine. The bowling hotspot Lucky Strike will be the place to be at this one-of-a-kind artistic mixer.

17. The Juice Crew Reunion

Where: Electric Factory, 421 N. 7th St.
When: Sunday, February 11th, 7PM

The Electric Factory will be a stomping ground for great old school hip-hop acts this Sunday night. Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie, Roxanne Shante, and many more will be slinging out their list of hits for the  crowd. To all my “Aint No Half Steppin” fans, Sunday is for you.

18. Steve Aoki

Where: The Fillmore Philadelphia, 29 East Allen St.
When: Sunday, February 11th, 8PM

Steve Aoki’s Kolony North America Tour features Desiigner, Grandtheft, and many other emerging acts. Aoki released his latest work Kolony in July of 2017. The production was propelled by the singles “Lit” and “Night Call”. The EDM and hip hop producer has assembled a great lineup for music fans of all genres this Sunday.
